I have a 2050 that I assume to have been built in 68-69 because the engine block is stamped on right side 7 10 68. I cant find the info plate. What engine is this? I also have a power problem. The american bosch PSJ injector pump was rebuilt by a pro and reinstalled by the dealer i got the tractor from. The engine sounded (and sounds now) great, but does not turn more than 11-1200 rpm. I suspect it is a timing problem with the pump, but it had the same symptom before it was rebuilt and i dont think the pump had been off before. Any suggestions and any info about this unit would be appreciated!

Here's exactly what happened to mine that resulted in the same loss of power. My tractor has a sediment bowl below the mail fuel tank. This bowl also has a fine mesh screen in it. I simply took off the screen, cleaned it out and I was back to full power. The screen was obviously plugged by some garbage that got into the tank. After this I would check the filters.

I would check the fuel filters and make sure there is no obstruction in the fuel line first. As well as the linkage. If still not then the air filter and if that's Ok I'd pull the pump again and take it back. Engine is a naturaly asperated 478 hurculiese.

Man I though those 2050 tractors would punch out horsepower like no tomorrow. Will it run faster than 12 hundred if you unhook the throttle rod and move the arm on the pump? You also need to remember that this pump is easy to get 1/2 turn out of time? It is also interesting that you still have a PSJ pump. Most of them we had had problems and the answer was a new model 100 pump. What all did the pro do to the pump. What do you know about the history of the tractor? Which filter set up do you have? How does it start. Does it run with a clean exhaust. I can not believe a dealer put that pump on and left it go out the door when it only runs at 50% throttle speed.

Sounds like an alternative may be switching the pump, where would a model 100 be available? idea of Cost? and what do you think the value of the tractor might be..other than this issue, it is in very good shape, even the fender tanks and paint is not bad. One more ?..on the dash to the right of the key, there is a pushbutton. Turning the key appears to activate the preheat, what specifically does the PB activate? Thanks!

Sri..having difficulty posting this so it will be a 2 parts i think..Thanks for the replies...is the 478 hercules the perkins engine? i dont think there is a fuel flow problem, but will pull filters tomorrow to verify. no difference when operating with linkage off. Whats the procedure for adjusting the timing?

The Perkins and the Hercules are two different engines from two different companies. The Hercules is also used in the 2-135 White

Hey I thought of this a little bit ago. I had one once when I got done working on it,it would not run up to speed. Problem, the fuel shut off on the tractor did not move the shut off arm on the pump to shut off. Like within an eight of an inch. Loosen the cable, and make sure that arm goes all the way forward. yea I know it is not real handy to get at. Do you have a pressure gauge that is accurate and goes to about 100 psi?

Had an 1855 that ran good when Ibought it but over time and change of fuel company, tractor got to smoking and no power. Went like that for several years then I discovered it was the final fuel filter that was partially plugged. That woke her up and stopped smoking. 40 Acres later, the usual things that happen to waukesha engines happened. Now no smoke at all. Check your whole fuel system is my advice.
