New leaks on 1855 - wb are you available?

Wrenchbender, need some more of your advice. Now that I turned up the pressure on my 1855, I now have 3 new leaks. One is easy to fix but my question deals with the other two. The screw on the compensator valve is leaking. Is this a simple fix ie o-ring or should I replace the valve with one off another unit. The other leak is somewhat annoying. I have hydraulic oil coming out of the steering column making the platform, not to mention my cloths very messy. I have backed off the pressure alittle but I have not had a chance to run it yet. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Yes there is an O-ring on the compensator screw. There are also O-rings at the top of the steering motor. That's the worst thing about the Oliver closed center hyd system...leaks! How high did you have the pressure? If you really need the tractor, I'd back it down to where the hyds function and you can live with the leakage. Good Luck, WB.

You are soooo right WB, I hate my 1855 for all the leaking it does. It mostly leaks around the pump and valve area where all the hoses are. I finally just gave up and let it leak. The G-1355 has the same system and the same leaks, wish I knew a way to stop those two from leaking so much.

I do have the parts to make them both into screw on filters and replace the old canister filter and maybe if I get time to do that I will just replace all the hoses and reseal everything. Probably will not help but it will make me feel better :-)

The hyd pump and control valve is another area that needs to be updated. Why they used compression fittings on the hyd pump that maintains 2200 psi is beyond me? I guess I didn't go to engineering school either. WB.

What do you put on when you change the hoses, do you just go to pipe thread hoses or what. The two small hoses under the main pump that run off the valves are the ones on my system that leak the most. There is a "T" on the back of the unloader valve I think that the hoses run off of and I can never seem to get it to quit leaking.

What have you done to make them stop WB???

Corse if I turn the pressure up too much the main hose off the pump will blow up out from behind the pump and drain the system, darn compression fitting like you said. Makes a nice oil slick on the highway when that happens :-)

My hydraulic pump area was leaking bad enough that I was fed up. Bought the spin-on filters just haven't had the time to install--but it looks easy.
However did take the time to very carefully clean up the top of the canisiter and put in a new O ring. That was only part of the leak. There is a 3/8" pipe behind the filter that had cut the flare. New pipe--no leaks.
We'll see how long this lasts.

I still intend to install the spin-on filter. What I don't understand is why there is only the one O ring. It would be so simple to have a compression gasket where the canisiter seats for the second seal. I have never seen high pressure systems with only one O ring or gasket.

Yeah, I havent had time to put mine on yet either, but my filters are really not leaking much. Seems I have leaks all over that area where the pump and valves are. I am hoping I will get to put the spin on filters on here in a month or so along with a cut off valve and maybe replace some hoses and what not to stop the leaks.

If you get to it before I do take some pictures. I will do the same if I get time to put them on.

Keep in mind that the filter is not on the pressure side of the system. The biggest problem I have had with filter was where someone put silicon gasket maker on the filter to seal it. I darn near broke it off the base before it separated. As a result of my efforts, I apparently loosened the input pipe and immediately got air in the system. Easy fix, just had to tighten the lock nut on the pipe. I suppose this would leak when the tractor is off.
