We have an Oliver S-77 that we pull locally, the engine has stock stroke, 3-3/4" bore, head milled .060" and homegrown port job, cam ground, intake with 1-1/4" ports, exhaust with 1-1/4" ports, big Zenith carb, Ignition at 25 BTDC, RPM @ 1900 and according to the dyno it makes about 65 HP @ 540 PTO.
Now the questions, is this HP realistic, it seems high to me. And second question if we are really making 70 HP, why do we seem to be out powered by other 77's, WD-45's and Super H's?

I have built many racing engines and found that a homegrown port job can hurt you more than help you. I would recommend taking your head to someone with a flow bench and have them check it out. (could make a heck of a difference. Alan

Yes, that is a realistic horsepower for that combination. It's hard telling why your getting beat by the other guys. the camshaft you have may not produce the torque the other guys have. or they may just have more done to their engines
