OLIVER 550 TRANNY PROBLEMS

I just bought a 550 broke down in the field. I think I did okay at $750.00. The tractor was attached to a box scraper blade when the man said it locked up. Now the engine runs fine but kills if the clutch is let out. The gear shift will not move at all. It was suggested that it may be the gear forks. Does that seem a possibility? If so the book indicated it may be fixable without a split. Thanks for your comments and advice. Regards, Allen

I have a 1972 Oliver 550. The tractor has worked great for many years. However, this year the transmission acted up and now will only go into two forward gears and will NOT go into reverse. I have taken the two bolts out that holds the shifter and can move the two rods but I don't know which way to move them or how they should be aligned. Can anybody help????

it probably is locked in 2 gears at once. Take the 2 bolts loose that hold the shifter and pull it out. then take a light and a big screwdriver or a bar align the rails to neutral . that should fix it .
