well got the motor unseized finally, had to put new liners in the cylinders because they were scored some and had some rust on them too. Replaced all the bearings in the motor to be on the safe side .How hard is it to change this motor from Pos ground to Neg ground and what all does it take to do it? Thanks for all the help. good to hear you got it unstuck! I would like to get the name of the dealership where you got your parts. ex: bearings , rings etc...
Is it in ontario? A name or number would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

If you can get new at a good price, OK.
My Oliver 90 seized up - 'caused' a valve head bouncing around at fast idle.
Also someone cleaned off the grease (I had put on the deck and bores) and then left it for ten years in front of a brick factory!!! Some rust!!!! Still used liner and piston after honing the bore to get rid of the nicks and enlarging the top ring groove.
In those days it was hard to find parts in the UK.

Just check for ovality on the crankpins before putting in new bearings.....and also the side-clearance of the top rings in particular - for maximum ring and piston life. Pistons can be brought back to standard quite easily (if not cheaply?)

To change polarity, turn the battery round. You will also need to change/rewire the control (voltage regulator) on the generator (don't know what you have) and flash the generator field windings to correctly polarise the generator. Alternatively fit an alternator (presuming it is 12 volt)?
If you have an ammeter it will need the connections reversing to read correctly.

Rings and gaskets are not a problem to get. The question I have for Allen is why do you want to go to the negative ground unless you are thinking alternator.

we wanted to go with neg ground because the battery would never stay charged very long on the tractor and so we want a alternator on it instead

If you have not looked yet, check into the diagram under the 77 diesel alternator on this page. You must have other problems, that generator on that 550 should keep the battery up in good shape. Are you a member of the Oliver-Hart Parr club/ I think the next issue ill have tech article on generator output service troubleshooting, etc.
