The story continues. After pulling the top off the transmission, we found that I need the righthand "bull gear drive shaft" for my 1964 Oliver 550. The gear that's on the shaft is chipped ... Suggestions, Please??

Help!

Kerry,When you replace the pinion, there is a thrust bearing that may need checking, and you will need to set the endplay and backlash.

I take it that you are referring to the "differental bull pinion" - that is the short shaft that has the gear on one end and splines that carry the brakes on the other.
email me I think that I can help you out.

How bad is it chipped? If just one side of the tooth, We used to reverse a lot of them, that way the chipped side is only there when the tractor is driven in reverse.

Hello, the gear is pretty well chipped in at least one spot and minor chips in other parts. The actual part number is ES-643.

Pete, I believe that's it. It's the gear (and shaft?? ~ can't tell) that drives the large bull gear on the rear axle. What are you asking for a righthand one with shipping to Wisconsin?
