No, its not an Oliver, it is that "ahem" other green, or actually yellow. Found this at an auction and couldnt pass it up. Its kinda rough, but I figure I will get it going again.

Any one know anything about a 444 JD wheel loader??

I think the tires are kinda small for the loader, may look into some bigger tires and rims down the road.

Any advice on this thing??

"That thing gotta Cummins?" ";^)

Seriously, that looks like, just the ticket, for cleaning the turkey litter. Anything's better than a shovel, right?

Nice find.

Nope, no Cummins, Yet!!! It has some kind of a N/A diesel deere engine. Supposed to be kicking out 95 HP outta that big 6 cylinder. Book says it is a 329 engine, but it looks bigger than that. I have a friend that is a deere nut, he is supposed to come over and check the engine out for me.

Hmmmmm 329 ci deere, 359 ci Cummins..... . I think it might fit.....

I get that beast running it will be a real trick for loading litter spreaders at the poultry house. It has a lot of work to be done to it first though.

What do ya think Myron, would it look good in Meadow Green and Clover White???? Call it an 1844 Oliver loader????

The 329 is the same engine thats in the 6600 combine there are lots of them around now that can be bought cheap. Its a good engine. The hydrostatic and later model combines had the larger 404 engine in them.

Good to know, thanks Larry. I cant tell by looking at the engine exactly what it is. Havent been around many Deeres as you can tell. It is supposed to be a 329ci engine, does that sound right for it to be putting out 97 Hp with no turbo, or do I have the 404????

I am hoping to pull the head and replace the head gasket and check the engine out a little and see if I can save it or if I have to replace it.

I imagine I will try to get another Deere engine for it if I need to replace it. Does the 404 and the 329 interchange??? Just wondering.....

In combines they rated them at 105hp running at 2600 rpm.The engines do interchange in the combines.the clutch end has just 4 bolts to remove and 2 on the other end and you can slip in a new engine. The air conditioner and other stuff is differant.

Yep, Meadow green and Clover White will be a definite improvement. That yellow's liable to scare the turkeys.

Skillet headache easing down any? ";^)

We have a 544 JD loader( no letter because it is an early one) It has a very high stall speed on the torque converter, later ones were better. Two speed Allison trans, later ones have a four speed. A neighboring dairy has a 544H with electronic transmission, new last year. A lot of years for improvement in between. The old 544 is not bad since we paid about$12,000 for it. Other loaders were close to $20,000 and a bit tougher shape. The 444 is a little low to load gravel trucks, but should be handy for lots of stuff on the farm. Tires do look a bit small. What size are they?

I am thinking this one doesnt have a letter either, it looks to be an older model. It is showing that it only has 2 gears a high and a low on the shifter, so I assume it is a two speed. What do you mean by a high stall speed??? The guy at the auction said that it was slipping in 2nd gear a little, but the oil in the transmission looks worse than what i put in the waste oil furnace, so I think that may be some of the problem.

I "think" the tires are a 19 X 24, I looked at them, but Im not sure. The rims are pretty shot too, so I was thinking if I could find some tires and rims off a 544 or something that would be taller it would help the loader a lot. Corse I guess I should get it running first. Need to find some new filters and oil for it this week and then try to start it and see what works and what doesnt.

Probably be a while before I get this one up and running on the farm.

Hey Shep, thats a pretty unique lookin outfit. Should make a good project. Looks sturdy enough for sure. I dont think i would be gettin too far off the hard ground though, she aint got much clearance, would be easy to get hung up in soft goin. Course you got lots of the ummmmm good green to pull her out if ya did get buried. LOL

Yeah, I think a taller set of tires are in order when I get her running.

From what I know it has a blown head gasket, but the engine is "supposed" to run good, we shall see on that one, and it had an electrical fire that took out most of the wiring and gauges. Other than that, it is supposed to be in good shape. I will try to change the fluids and see if it will start sometime.

All i know is that it is a 444, no letter that I can tell. The book I got with it says 1976 but who knows. Cant find the serial plate on the darn thing to get a serial number yet, guess that is the next task.

Outta be a great loader for moving turkey litter or digging a hole. See what happens :-)

A 444 what? Most of them have a letter behind the number because 44 designates a loader. The larger the front number 444 vs 644 the larger the loader. I have an official Deere shop manual for a couple of them. Probably sell the manual

Now if ya was just needing something to do I got a MF 50C TLB I would let you talk me out of cheap. Advantage over that "other green" machine is that will not be embarresed to come out an play with the your big boys, plus it has that added advantage of a dipper stick vs. straight loader :)

I have to agree those tires do look mighty small, perhaps lower center of gravity for big bucket loads? I know nothing of JD so can't help there.

PS - Got me a secret I will let y'all in on come Wednesday. Being Ma's Day I ain't sposed to be doing tractor stuff. Gotta run b4 that skillet comes winging by again.
