Fella that had the White 2-105 for sale last yr. sold it (me day late, dollar short). He called last night and said if interested come by and check out his 1755 and we can dicker. He has the 1755 and a 1265. I am interested in the 1755 although bigger than what I really need.

I had my sights set on a 1650 but I know this Oliver is better than the Orange Blossom Special. I beleive the 1755 has closed center hyd. and from my reading open center is preferred.

Did the 1755 come with a Dsl? This one is a gasser 283 I think.

Gone off to look at the archives for awhile. Thanks in advance.

our 1755 had the holly distributor on it that gave us fits but we put the mallory replacement in it fixed that the aluminum carborator I have been told can have diafram problems I have the cast iron one one thing about having twise the tractor is that you will not be working it so hard so it wont be luging and that is when they seem to like the fuel but power is there if you need it
It should have 540 & 1000 its just if you can find the other shaft to switch it
the over/under has 3 ranges 2 that dont free wheel sometheng to think about if you have hilly ground
Ours looks good seting next to our 550 if that helps I Better stop Thomas

We had a 1750 that broke down, then bought our 1755 in 1987. What a great tractor. We found it on a JD dealer lot. Salesman said he would rather drive that tractor than any used JD on the lot. After having our 1750 down and using an MF 1135, the "roar" of the Waukesha diesel was music to our ears. Love that tractor. I own a MM-G850 which is the exact same tractor with yellow paint and a different cast grill. Wouldn't trade them at all.
BUY IT.

Well, the ugly is my 1755 sitting at a useless dealer with a useless engine. It doesn't have a hole, but it sure don't run. They are a good tractor in general, ours just happened to go south. Wanna put in a 5.9 sometime. The gasser should be just fine, other than the occasional plugs, points, cap, etc. Our 1600 went through random ignition parts all the time. Hopefully with anyluck it'll be up and roarin' again soon. they can be a bit thirsty, but it's a start. You could always swap it out for a deisel, don't even have to be a 310. Hyd. brakes are nice, once they engage. Our 1755 has a really bad delay between pushing the pedal and when they engage. Our 1855 just engages unevenly. Everyone covered all the bases, just thought I'd add a little.

P.S.-If'n you come up to Wisconsin, you could go home with a 2255 I saw today

You reckon that AC G would give that 2255 a run for his money :)

Thanks Don but 1750/55 is biggest I care to go unless someone wills be alot of land. If this timber market doesn't pick up here in the South I may not even need that big rig.

Might have to stay with the little rigs just stuck sweeping the weeds 'tween the rows. What if that is as good as it gets :)

I hear ya-
If we had a lot more land (we only have about 75 acres)I might try getting my dad to go in on it with me. The 1855 is bigger than most of our equipment. Only the corn chopper might work it a little bit and our springtooth can pull it, but that's about it. Gonna need a plow bigger than our 3-16, although it did work our 1755.

I would not know why any one would prefer the open center hyd over the closed or a 50 series over a 55 if you plan to use it at all. Higher hyd flows, power brakes are big idems and once you have them you will not want to go back. I have nothing good to say about the gas engines. Some guys like them but my experience is there nothing but trouble always somthing with them points, plugs, carb, vapor lock and extreamly ineffecent to boot. The 310 in the 1755's is quite a bit more reliable than the larger ones but still benifits from the updates.

I grew up running a 1650D NF then a 1755D WF with cab. I prefer the 1650 due to NF, the WF takes too much room to turn. The cab rattled, and I hear a whine from the 3 speed. 1755 3 speed is nicer than 2 speed, better brakes, seat, prefer the hydraulic controls, and a lot heavier 3pt (1755 had the optional 3pt). both were 540 pto's. the 1755 pulled 4-18's 3 direct all day. 1650 pulled 4-16's 2 low and 1 direct. 1755 definitly more power. I bought the 1650 (4500 hrs) and my uncle still runs the 1755 (3400 hrs) . the 1755 was last year made. 1650 is a 67 or 68

I own an 1855 which (excluding the engine ) is basically the same as the 1755 . The 1855 is my favorite tractor even above a three year old John Deere 7210 . THe only complaint I have about the 1855 is the tractor has a really tight gear box and sometime can be difficult to shift especially from a foward speed to a reverse speed . This can be a problem ( or at least tiring ) if you are baling hay with a round baler and do not have a baler kicker which means you have to back up and then pull foward each time you tie and dump a bale . Any other job which requires a lot of changing from foward to reverse may be a problem with the 1755 if it shifts like my 1855 .

Shep,

1755 Gas is a gas-aholic, but not a bad tractor. Yes, you can put a 354 Perkins in one, as I have a 354 in one of my 1755's that has a fwa. It operates perfect and is one of my best tractors. I too have a 310 in my other 1755 fwa and it is a very good tractor. Cranks with ease in the coldest NC weather. Never needs ether nor plug in- though I here 310's either crank good or bad. If the price on this gasser is right...under $2500, one way of looking at it is comparing the price of gas and diesel.....the gap is closing. Keep in mind, Olivers gas motors are very powerful and extremely responsive to the throttle if tuned correctly. I bale all of my hay with a gas tractor....smooth sailing.

1755 has a closed center hydraulic system, which does not rob horsepower until used. Much to be preferred over an open center, I think.

I have a 1755 gas (would prefer diesel) and get along with it pretty well, but I don't pull it hard. I'd rather have it than a 1650.

Remember there ShepFl, if this is the diesel, its the 310....not perfered by me. ShepVA will be after you to get a cummins put into it:) We have a 1755 with a 5.9 Cummins in it, and we enjoy it very much (check out our picture on the Oliver tractor photo section). Solid rear end and we absolutely love the Over/Under. As you said this one is a gasser, so it will drink plenty. We have a 1650 gas, and it drinks enough, but its still a heck of a tractor. My two cents, lets see what others say:)

I will post some pics tomorrow or Monday. You are right, I forgot about the 1755 Dsl being the dreaded 310 Waukesha, plus no turbo. If it does have this engine is it safe or fair to assume at best it will have to be overhauled or needs to be overhauled to make sure all the updates are done to it? How can I tell if the updates have been added?

This rig has been sitting quite a long time and from y'all I have learned that the hyd. are prone if it has sat very much at all. Assuming it has the 310 known for engine falure I see some real expense one way or the other. I know of a 354 Perkins motor sitting. I know I like the Perkins in my MF backhoe, parts are spendy though as they all are. Can that 354 be installed or do you need an 1855 tub? Finally, did the 1755 have dual PTO or just 1000 RPM PTO?

Hey ShepVA, what say you (besides Cummins repower :)?

The other guys are right on. The 1755 will have the 310 Waukesha with no turbo if is is a diesel, but it will not have a turbo. What I have seen the N/A 310 engines seem to live longer than the turboed ones and dont have near the problems that the 1855 and 1955 had, mostly becuase they dont have the stress of the turbo on them. All the same updates still apply with the one piece wrist pin bushings, the rod cap bolts, and the crank alignment.

The gas engine will be the 283 Waukesha, and that is a good engine. Like the others said it will pull hard and run good, but it drinks gas.

You do have the option of putting an 1850 frame on the tractor and putting a 354 Perkins engine into the 1755. You need to make sure you get a No Dot engine and not a later model perkins. These are a little harder to come by, not every 354 Perkins is the same, you need to know what Dot number it is. Corse you can always put a Cummins in it :-)

Both of my Closed center hydraulic tractors are terrible about leaks. I would agree with your assesment, if the tractor has sat very long the hydraulic system is gonna leak. I have chaged hoses and sealed threads all over my 1855 and it still drops a small puddle in the shop over night. Dont know that it is a big problem, but dont be suprised if it leaks.

Most all the 55 series tractor have a duel speed PTO. The way you can tell is to look on the lower right of the PTO housing, right about where the drawbar swing is, and there should be a bolt sticking down that holds a slide on the lower right side. The slide is threaded so you can screw a bolt into it and easily change the PTO gear selection. Most of those tractor had the 540 and 1000 though.

If you can get it at a good price I would go for it. The 310 diesel has its problems, but the 17xx series had the least of the problems with that engine.

I dont have a 17xx tractor yet..... Hmmmmm need to tell the wife that I need to get one so I can have a full set. Dont have a 19xx tractor either, maybe I can find a nice 1950 for that slot???

Oh BTW---I just got another new toy at an auction that is to be delivered today. Its not an Oliver, but it is just as cool. I will have some pictures in a few days for you all to drool over..... ..... dont want to ruin the suprise..

Having worked on both the 1855 and 1850 , I agree with Shep that the perkins diesel will not go in the 1755 frame without modifications . I would be much easier to bolt the 1850 frame on to the rear of the 1755 . For one thing , the engine in the 1855 frame is bolted down with four bolts while the Perkins diesel in the 1850 frame has only three bolts , two in the rear and one in the front .

My 1755 has dual 540/1000 PTO. You can put the Perkins in but you need to change the frame to the '50 series.

The 310 diesel is OK if you treat it right and don't turn it up. If it is more tractor than you need, have the pump turned down just a shade. Change the oil regularly.
