Has anyone ever seen Oliver equipment with the letters WJO on it. I have a walking plow with these letters, and it has been suggested that it may be an Oliver plow, but no one knows for sure. I just thought maybe some of Oliver people might have an idea. I'm about to give up as I've tried everything I can think of, all the sites and forums I can find on the PC. If you have any place else I might go to check please let me know and I will go there. I've been to Farmer Brown, Macknair, Rural Heritage and this is the second place here. Thanks for any thing you may come up with. Bill

Thanks for the response I have written this e-mail address down for future use. It is so nice to have these forums to go to and hear from people all over the country. I want to thank you for taking the time to write, and trying to help me out, I hope I can return the favor someday. Thanks again Bill

The WJO probably stands for Willam. J. Oliver. That was another Oliver plow company in Knoxville, TN. The Oliver Chilled Plow Works took them to court in the early 1900's to demand that they quit selling plows as "Oliver Chilled Plow."

Sherry: thanks for the info, that makes sence to me, I looked up the Oliver history and his name was James but no where did it give a first name or initial. I don't know how you found that out but I'm glad to hear this, now I've got somewhere to go again. I've been like a blind dog in a meat house for a while, not knowing which way to turn. Thanks a million, Bill

William J. Oliver's plow company in Knoxville and James Oliver's plow company in South Bend are 2 entirely different companies. The Knoxville company wasn't in business for real long time. I do have a sign and some other information from the company.

I believe William was James' cousin or uncle. I'd have to look that one up though.

I tried to find something on W J Oliver last nite and couldn't come up with any thing on the PC, guess I don't know where to look. I'm trying to get enough info to try and find a few parts for this plow but from what your telling me that may be impossible. How do I go about getting this info, or can I, I don't know for sure what all I need to give to the plow shops to get parts, number wise, but maybe knowing more about where the plow was made may make a difference.Your the only one thats come up with this much info, and for that I thank you again. Bill

Chances may be slim that you find any parts for this plow unless some of the universal parts bolt up to it. If you're looking on the internet for information on the company, try looking under Oliver Tractor Co. That's what they were known as after the trademark infringement suit. I know that they were still in business in the early 1920's but I don't know of anything after that. They built crawler type tractors but only 2 different models that I know of.

I'd contact Farmer Brown's Plow shop or contact someone at Small Farmer's Journal. They specialize in horse-drawn implements.

Sherry: I don't know how you got all this but you have been a wealth of information for me. I have been in close contact with Bob at farmer Browns and I think it has had him stumped as well. I may be headed down a dead end road, but have sure talked to some super nice people. I've been passing on the info from you to Bob and some of the others so I may still find something yet, who knows. I'm gonna keep at it till there is no where left to turn, it sure has been fun. I'm working on some mowing machines too, so watch I may have more questions. If I find any parts and different info I will post it and let you know, thanks again you have been great help, Bill
