2255 - fix, sell, trade?

I have a 2255 MFWD that I have to decide what to do with. It's plenty big. About 3500 hours. New main bearings. Rebuilt PTO and hyd pump. Pulls well. Has some blowby on startup but smooths out soon.

Tires good to fair. Front end has some wear but still works well. Cab in poor condition & AC doesn't work.

I want something to run on 30" rows and am not sure if it is worth the money it would take to fiddle with the tires to try to make this a 30" machine, or if it would always be a compromise.

an old 2255 like you have is very sought after by collectors, and farmers alike. I'd be interested if I had a use for a tractor that size. I'd say it would definatly be worth a whole new engine, but since yours has new main bearings in the engine, you might just put some new rings in it, and new rod bearings. Check and make sure the bores are in good shape too, otherwise you will still have blow by. You may want the head looked at too by a machine shop. If you take the time to rebuild it right, you will have one heck of a sweet tractor, but if you cut corners you will end up with something you will want to trade. Agco, I'm pretty sure still makes all the parts for it, so worn stuff can be replaced if need be. I think interior kits are availible by all the cab manufacturers. The A/C could be fixed by the nearest automotive garage. You might look into a remanufactured engine by Agco before you rebuild just to see if it's worth rebuilding your old one, sometimes it's cheaper just to buy one that you just bolt in, especially if your not mechanically inclined and can't do the work yourself.
Good luck!

Hey! Jim, let me know what you want for the tractor and where you are located. I am looking for a MFWD tractor and do go for the big ones. I live in northwest Iowa.

The big question is, what's going to replace it?

Jim- Seems to me that Adam Suess has his narrowed up to 30 inch rows, but if I were you, put it up for sale. A 2255 with FWA is pretty rare, and I'd bet you'd get decent money out of it. Just my two cents...
