Anyone have any tips on telling the voltage of a generator if it's missing the Delco number, etc.? Is there anything stamped on it that would help with the ID? Thanks for the help.

A couple things you can do:

1 - Remove the commutator dust band and count the brushes inside. If you find 3 brushes it's definitely a 6 volt generator. However if it has only 2 brushes, it can be either 6 or 12 volt.

2 - If you have the generator apart and have an DVM capable of accurately measuring low resistance, you may be able to figure it out by measuring the resistance of the field windings (measure from the ungrounded brush to the generator's "F" terminal). A 6 volt generator will show in the area of 1-1/2 to 2 ohms or so. A 12 volt field's resistance will be double that.

Oliver Fleetline Diesels and others used 12 Volt- 3 brush generators. so recheck your first statement.

Thanks - I stand corrected! 3-brush, 12 volt generators have gotta be rather uncommon however. I've yet to encounter one - though I've never worked on an Oliver Fleetline diesel either...

If I understand your question correctly: test the incoming charge at the battery; there may be other ways of checking generator voltage output but seems to me what is important is how much voltage is getting to the battery, about 7.1+ for 6V and not sure how much for a 12 V.
Hope this helps. Been there, done that.

Is the generator on or off the tractor? If off can you drive it with an outside power source/
