Is there any way to determine a tractor's original designation? If over the years parts and pieces from 30s E-3s and Farmcrests were used to rebuild or restore one tractor, what is it? Can one of the above be identified by serial number only? Can't seem to find an answer. Thanks

Thanks All. Just wonder if someone is in custody of the old manufacturing records. During assembly they must have been coded for paint color, decals and any special equipment as vehicles are along the assembly line. Unless of course the were repainted before being shipped from the assembly site. That's sounds a bit counter productive. Maybe someone from the Intl Cockshutt club would have that kind of info. Sounds like it could be an interesting reserch project.

Seems like this subject has come up before, and no one has any of those records- apparently anything that may have existed was destroyed when Cockshutt was merged. I have a Cockshutt 35, which was painted Co-op orange. The strange thing is that the 35's were never sold as Co-ops, so why did someone paint it orange? (Its red under the orange, like its supposed to be)

The only way is if its original. My farmcrest was original when I got it still had the farmcrest tires on it and varacon sparkplugs in it and you could see the gambles farmcrest on the side of the hood still

Farmcrest 30,Co-op e-3 and Cockshutt 30 were all
included under the same serial #s,with no way to
tell one from the other.

You can usually determine the original paint color, either under a flange that didn't get repainted, or by careful sanding. That will separate the E-3 (orange), but seems like the Cockshutt and Gambles were the same shade of red.
