I started getting into my new 77 yesterday. I have a few questions that I would like to see if someone could help with. I started with the air filter. I noticed that there was a piece of pipe connect to the top of it and it turned and was positioned so the open end of it was over the valve cover. It had remains of a screen over the end. I see a trough in the radiator that looks like it would accomodate this pipe. Can you tell me if the pipe goes over the radiator? Should there be anything over the end of it? and is there anything that goes between the pipe and radiator to prevent noise? I am also wondering about the manifold. where the pipe would screw into the manifold, there is a short pipe, a 45 degree elbo pointing forward, another short pipe and another 45 degree elbow pointing upward to move the exhaust pipe over to meet the hole in the hood. (it still didn't exactly make it, so the hood was cut a little bit to accomodate). The manifold is going to have to be replaced and I want to make sure that I get the right one. Should the exhaust be routed like this? As far as the gas tank, should ther be a sediment bowl on here? Mine doesn't have one now. And finally, I wanted to rebuild the carburetor and it is a Marvel Schebler (spelling?). I cannot find a model number on it. Do you know how I can identify it so I can get a kit?

Thanks for your help.

Keith

On a 77 the air inlet pipe goes over the radiator and points towards the grill. It is also likely that your 77 was supposed to have the muffler under the hood, and someone has used elbows to comeout through the original exhaust hole in the hood.

Keith, If it is a 77 you SHOULD have a Marvel Schebler TSX 363 on there. Look close, there should be a tag on it. Others will fit, and the kits would be diffrent. Did this tractor have an under the hood muffler??? If not then the exhaust should come out through the hood. The vent on the air cleaner just sits there, No majic piping anywhere. Don't mean to sound like a professor but go get an IT mannual if you dont have one. It helps. Good luck on your 77!!!!!

Thanks for the info. I didn't even know that they offered the muffler under the hood. Does this require a different manifold? Thanks for the IT manual advice. I ordered one on Friday but couldn't wait to get started yesterday. How about the sediment bowl and does anything go on the end of this air intake pipe? It had lots of oil and dust build up in it before. I guess that this is because it was sitting abovr the valve cover.

both my 77's have sediment bowls right out of the tanks.....The air cleaners on mine aren't stock. If you want a stock set-up, look at someones tractor that you know wasn't played with...Maybe someone could post a picture???? Good luck.

All Fleetline 66,77 &88's had the mufflers under the hoods. There should be a wire mesh screen behind the grill and your air cleaner pipe should also have a screen on the end. Many of them were"lost" a long time ago. No, it does not take a different manifold, but the pipe to which the muffler attaches is short. The inlet and outlet openings are offset so you line the exhaust pipe up with the hole in the hood.
