66 front wheel hubs

I recently began replacing the front wheel bearings and seals on my narrow front 66. I completed the one side with no problem. The other side appears to have a different wheel hub even though same part number. Problem is the seal that goes against the wearing cup does not seat as deep in hub as the other side. The first hub surrounds the wearing cup with about 1/8 to 1/4 inch showing. With the second hub, I can't get any of the wearing cup inside the hub because the step inside the hub is not deep enough. Did they change the hub later in production to allow for a newer seal? Any help is appreciated.

Your problem is that someone has ran the hubs so long without paying attention to the bearings and let them get loose and the part of the hub that was over the seal has worn or broken off.

I ran into the same problem. I used a National 470687 seal and had a machine shop turn the hub down to accept the seal. This worked out a lot better and the seal is much cheaper than the oem seal. Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the help. I measured the length of the hubs and there is a 1/2 inch difference between the two even though they have the same part numbers.

When I got my very expensive inner grease seals for a 660 WFE from Farmersville Equip. Tom also sent two steel cups or discs that go over the spindle and create a "new" surface for the inner seal to make contact with . It worked out great and If I had just got the seals only, I would be getting dirt in my new brgs. from day one. Expensive but worth it.
