Any ideas where I can find a head for a 1600 diesel? I don't even know where to start looking.

J. Schwiebert is correct about where it might be leaking. If it is truly the head, I know of one place that has some rebuilt ones in stock.

Carl Mitchell and Sons in Central City, Ky. has several Oliver heads on their shelves. You will need the casting number when you call.

Local number: 270-754-1723
Toll free : 1-800-467-8907 (I think)

Tell 'em Jerry Benham said to call. ( I am trying to get a job there)

2 questions. Does your leak or you just found some cracks? Next what is the serial number? The older 1600 diesels take a different head than the later ones. Easy way of telling, does your water pump have a bypass hose to the thermostat housing?

Can't answer all those questions, just looking at it right now and pondering. owner says it was down a few years ago and they checked the head and it was cracked and putting some water in the oil. Put stop leak in it and been getting by for two years. He said he thought it was a 63 or 64.

See if you can get this information. Also where are you located? Also I would worry if it was NOT cracked! Now you need to find out if the crack is causing the leak. It could be a headgasket a leaking O-ring on a sleeve or something else.

When the tore it down two years ago they checked the head and it had some cracks in it. He has been running stop leak in it and has slowed it almost to a stop. (It was/is putting water in the oil.) I am located in central Indiana right on the Ohio line.

You are not that far away. I am in western Ohio. Go to Oliverhartparr.org, find me and send me a U2U. I need more information and then may have some suggestions.

Tried to but it wouldn't find the site? Not sure what a U2U is either?
