I came across an ad for an Oliver 1800 4X4 with a new Cummins Diesel engine listed at 150 hp which I am going to look at tomorrow. Can anyone give me any information about this tractor? Is the Cummins a common engine in Olver and did they make a good 4X4 then? Is the hp a little high for this tractor? Also, what is the going price for a tractor such as this? Any information about this tractor would be greatly appreciated.

Thank,
Dave

The 1800 originally had the waukesha engine(gas or diesel). The Cummins must be a repower. The front axle they used back then was a quite reliable unit originally designed for military use by Clark Industrial. A brand new Cummins can run from $7,000 to $10,000 depending on all of the bells and whistles that are on it. An original 1800 front wheel assist would probably be around $5,000 give or take a grand. Personally, I think that 150 horses is probably a little too much for that tractor. The front axle would help spread the power out but eventually, something is probably going to give up.
