77 lube system

I sent my block to have cleaned and checked. When it came back the oil passage above cam didn't have a pipe plug in it.Is it suposed to be open or plugged ? Ididn't pay any atention to it before so i have no idea. It is a gas if that matters .Thanks.

yes, if its the plug going into the oil galley, you gotta have it in there. I sent a block away a couple years ago to have boiled and when i put it together, failed to notice the rear plug had been left out. When i started the tractor first time, had no oil pressure and oil was runnin out the belt housing. Needless to say it created a lot of extra work in the end.

It is on the timingcover end of engine.They are 1/8 inch plugs two of them are there one is missing .I was wondering if i would have no oil pressure like you said or is it supposed to oil some thing. Sounds like i should put a plug in there.

your right they are 1/8". one above & one below cam. also a small one above the crank behind the cam gear.

Well, i pluged it no matter what size it is. Ifinally got ahold of my uncle who was a oliver mechanic in the 60s and early 70s he said it will not have any oilpressure with out it.I'll pay more atention to that kind of stuff now. thanks for your help.

if it is the one i think it is should be 1/4"pipe thread and plugged.
