Some of my questions my seem anoying but, I need to start somewhere. I'm still messing with the distriutor.

1.Something doesn't seem right with the coupling drive on the lower end of the driveshaft. Part No. T7679. Does this part have a key or a pin at the very end? Mine has two pins and looks modified. The shaft does not seat in the drive gear properly. Would appear an off set key would be proper. Where would I find this part for sale? 2. When checking the serial nos. Yesterdays tractors site show mine to be a 53 and the Intl Cockshutt club shows it to be a 52 Hear it is: Pls advise: 30-35255 3. It would appear that the original motor has been replaced with something very similar. No serial no visiable. motor appears to bolt in properly but the color is a very tire blue color. What other tractors used this motor? Still can't figure where the heck the coil mounts. 4. Tractor has a working 3 Pt hitch that I may wish to part with. I know its a very desirable add on but my towing weight my be maxed out. I may need to sell off the 3pt hitch and wheel weights.
5. What could I expect to pay for a very good used or rebuilt motor? Tks everyone.

Hi Ron,I am looking at a dist right now.The "coupling" I think you are speaking of has a 2 piece key that is off set.The top of it resembles a top hat and is pined to the dist shaft.Hope this helps

Al, It does. Someone manufactured something in place of the 2 piece key. It looks like they just put a couple of pins in place of the key. Where can a I get the correct piece(s) I need. Hopefully the Key is something that can be replaced. Just hope the bottom of the distributor hasn't been butchered too much. Is the distributor you have any good and for sale? RON

Did you get that serial number off the frame casting under the distributor. Serial Number is hand stamped on the frame.

I just went out and pulled the distributor out of my C-30. If you look at the Dist from the shaft end, there is a machined cap on the end of the shaft held on with a pin. That part appears to have an offset key on it. The socket the shaft goes in is also offset. See if the pin that holds this cap on is sheared, it could
be, and not look like it. The plate to identify the engine, is just to the left of the distributor, held on with 4 rivets. Should be a 4B153 engine. I would start by removing all the plugs, so engine will turn easily. Re move the plug on the bell housing so you can see the timing marks. Hold a finger over the front sparkplug hole and turn the engine and find when # one is on the compression stroke OR remove the valve cover and turn the engine til both valves are closed for the compression stroke on #1 When the engine is at TDC, two marks should show in the hole in the bell housing, TDC and another ??degrees BTDC. Put the dist in the engine. Make sure you lineup the offset pin right. Put the rotor on , put the cap on . Mark the Dist body where the plug wires go in. Remove the Cap , does the rotor point to any of the marks on the dist.?? I think that dist body will turn enough to line up the rotor with one of the marks on the dist body. The coil mounts on a bracket on the air cleaner, Why change to twelve volts?? My tractor starts and runs very well on 6 volts. Its positive ground . I would put new points and condensor in it , not expensive. Then with a jumper wire from the battery to the coil. I would open and close the points manually to see if you get a spark out of the coil. Have you wife or girlfriend hold the end of the coil wire and the other hand on the steering shaft. E-mail me at [email protected]

Dave,
Thanks much for the follow up. Maybe I can replace the off set key alone. Hopefully who ever worked on the distributor last didn't tear it up too badly. Looks as if the key was replace with two pins at different levels to compensate for the off set key. Any extra distributors around and how much should I expect to pay? Maybe some reading this can take a snapshot of the the distributor end and post it so I'll know what everone is talking about.

Ron,my list shows your 30 to be a late 1952 model
and the 3pt hitch should be worth from 2 to 3 hundred if it is all there and not broken or welded up.What is your location.
