My first post resulted in no responses so maybe I phrased the question wrong. I need to know where I can get the felt seal that goes on the vertical shaft of a tricycle front end of an Oliver 88. The oil/grease runs out as fast as you can pour it in the top housing that has the worm gear in it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Mike: Joe and Steve are correct. The whole steering column is not full of grease, just the upper part of the housing with the worm and sector gears. You need to disassemble the top end and replace the "O" ring that is in the "O" ring grove that Joe points out in his picture. Be prepaired to put a lot of effort in getting the sector gear off of the shaft as it is on a tapper and won't give up easily.

Mike the felt seal is B-1163 and about $12 from Agco dlr. Felt retainer is about $5 and lower brg is about $25 from Agco. Gear box parts are a little harder to come by.

Felt keeps dirt out of the bottom end. If the lower brg fails, the post moves up and the bronze washer no longer seals the SAE 90 gear box lube because the gear moves up from the eccentric. A bad O-ring on the eccentric also lets oil leak.

Mike,
You need a 1B-1163 felt and maybe a 1B-1164 felt retainer if it is worn or damaged. Also, there is a 1H-1160 o-ring that goes around the eccentric that I would change too. You may want to replace the seal that goes on the worm shaft too, 1H-752 below serial number 120154, 1K-752A above serial 120155. These part numbers may be updated, but you have something to go off of. Do you have an AGCO dealer close by?
