Found an 1850 WFE Dsl (I assume Perkins) tonight or it found me. Buddy of mine told me about it. I called and spoke with the owner. I am going to look at it tomorrow. Owners says it desparetly needs some TLC and new rubber. Says it starts right up and idles fine, hydraulics raise but don't lower (I suspect filter & fluid change in order) Claims it was given to him but it is to big for his place (5 acres).

What to look for on this rig? How do I determine if Hydraul or Hydra-shift? Weak points, key things to watch out for? Key things it should have?

If the price is right hoping to get off the porch and run with y'all big dogs :)

Sleepless night tonight and Santa Clause is long gone!

Hey Shep FL,

That 1850 sounds like a steal. I really can't add to what the others have told you to look for. Here's a link to some pictures of my 1850. They may or may not be useful for comparison purposes. (Ignore the electric fuel pump picture as I doubt yours will have one.)

Got my fingers crossed for ya!!!

Hey Myron,
What's all that white stuff on the ground. I thought us Iowans had cornered the market on that.

Hey Myron, That dashboard turned out nice. Wanna swap?
Are your front weights stock? Mine stack differently.

Thanks but I think I'll keep mine. ";^)

Yes they are stock. I've got the base weight (140 lbs.), one stack weight (95 lbs.) and three plate weights at 160 lbs. each.

Did ya see a couple, familiar, 1850 pictures? I had forgotten they were on there. I will delete them if you like. Myron KY

No, don't delete them. They are a good source of reference. The remotes are on the other side of mine, I noticed that the mounting bracket is a much better set up. Makes me think...

Still, if I had a dash on mine like you now have on yours I'd run into something. I don't belive anything works on mine but the oil pressure and temperature gauge.

Mike,
That remote bracket is from TSC. The originals were long gone.

Great news Shep! I'm with you. I thought the 1850 was a lot more tractor then I'd ever use. After looking for a while I discovered that I could get one for less than 50 - 60 hp tractors were selling for here in Virginia. Best move I've made in any farm machinery purchase.

My 1850 is the Hydraul. That offers an under and over beyond direct drive. Also have an Oliver cylinder with it. Need wiring redone on that part.

Watch out for Shep/Va. He'll be talking you into a Cummins for it! Let us know how it works out. You are really going to like this machine.

Hi Shep,
Don't sound too bad, what's the asking price?
Hyd may only be somebody turned the speed spool screw in all the way. Rest should be the normal lookover; bubbles in the radiator, color of exhaust, etc. Good luck Larry

Unbelieveably Low! He is asking $2K obo. Says it is so big no one wants it. He does not want to put rubber on it because of the costs. So, I am thinking $1800 if it runs ok. It can wear used tires for all I care.

He wants to sell bad and he is ticked to death that a current Oliver (me) just might be interested. I am cautiously optimistic.

Sounds like you got a good one.
I'd unhook the trailer a mile down the road so he dosen't think your drooling so hard that You'll pay any price!(I've got a bad case of enthusieassticitus), You know, the old "buy high, sell low" theory. But 2K sounds like you've got some room for needed improvements.
Sorry I can't help you more with the over/under. I had a 1950T that was direct drive and loved it, so if the extra speeds don't work so good, only use the ones under your feet! G'luck (again) Larry NE IL

Pretty much a good lookover will work. make sure all of the over -under works right as they can be kinda pricey to fix. If I remember right the 50 series did have the Perkins in them and from people I have talked to it is a reliable motor.

As for the price it sounds real good to me. I just bought a 1964 1800 LPG from a guy in Il. for $3700 and got a good deal I thought. Runs really good, no major oil leaks, sheetmetal is great, and the read tires were decent. had to free up the tilt steering stuff and gonna put a battery box on and that is about it.

There is a picture of it in the tractor photos if you want something to compare to. Look for one with a JD 720 LPG sitting with it.

About the 3point not lowering. It could be the lowering spool stuck inside under the top cover of the unit.It could be the linkage is installed wrong(its easy to reverse one part)or broken.
