I fixed the hydraulic pump. Doesn't pump hydraulic fluid into the transmission.
But -- I didn't fix the cycling or hicupping on the 3 point hitch. I pulled the piston and somebody left the leather backup washer out when they installed the O-ring. I installed new O-ring and leather washer. If anything it hiccups worse. Sure is discouraging.
Is this a serious defect on 550's.
The brush hog jumps up and down when I use it.
I have a newer model with what I believe they call it double feedback?
If the piston isn't the problem, what else can cause this?

First of all you must be using an I & T manual. Second thing now that it is too late, did you check the assembly as described in the manual by using a press. Next thing, if you pick up what ever you are lifting and then shut the engine off does it settle and if it does how fast. Next thing are you running in position or draft control?

Your right, I was using an I & T manual.

I'm not sure what you mean by using a press. I guess I'm showing my ignorance. Should I have measured pressure somewhere.

It was settling before I worked on it, but it seems to hold up now, or at least better. I didn't have as much weight as usual, just the hay prong, not the bush hog, but it held up for a week which is unusual, now that you mention it. It usually settles overnight.

Again I'm not sure what you mean by running in position or draft control. I have the adjustment under the seat for height of lift, and I am using the top position on the upper lift arm. I tried other positions without helping any.

I expected to see o-rings in the spool assembly but didn't see any used.

I think where I messed up was that when I saw the leather backup washer missing and everybody saying the piston was normally the problem, I though I had it fixed.

I would like to see it fixed right.
