On a late 550, tack gear drive, is there a pin that would shear on the inside the housing that comes off the motor? My tack quit working so I unscrewed the tack cable from that housing and the little gears inside there do not turn. Is there a shear pin inside there on a gear or is something stripped inside the motor? Thanks for any help.

Mark: Make sure that the cable that turns your tach is not broken. Turn the cable and if it is not broken your tach should show a reading with you turning the cable. My tach was not working and this is the way I checked it and found that the cable was not inserted correctly, as there is a little piece on the bottom of the cable that sticks out and it inserts into a slot. After reinstalling it correctly my tach worked ok after that. If you have any questions email me.

Greg, My cable is fine. The little gear that the cable slides into was bad and bound up in there and as that happened it either stripped a gear further inside or sheared a pin. Havn't tore it apart yet. Was hoping someone has had experience with this. Thanks for your reply. Mark

Any idea where I can get a replacement tach cable? Mine was sitting on the shop bench and my boys thought it was a new plaything. It is now GONE, LOST, never to be found again :(

Yep, you can get it at Korves. I bought one at the Summer show last year.

Thx Paul! I will give them a holler.
How is life in your neck of the woods? I guess you'rebusy as I rarely see you post much anymore. Haven't seen much of Grant either.

Take care, ShepFL

I don't get on as much right now. During the school year I don't have much free time. Hey the weather here last week was so nice I thought I was in Florida. Grant has been back at work for a while plus he has his farm, so I guess he's busy too. He'll be at the HPOCA meeting in PA this weekend. How was your trip to the salvage yard in Texas?

I hear that. I am keeping busy and spring is right around the corner. Got spuds down last week and have some plowing to do this weekend. Got to get the AC G going for the boys before the weeds come up. Also taking Herbicide/Pesticide class and spring turkey season is upon us so my Hunter Ed obligations are in high gear.

As to the salvage yard, did not get to go as travel companion had to leave early to catch a hop over to Los Angeles. I will be going back to TX in May. Plan to stop by then and snoop around. I did call and he said he did not have much.

So the search continues and making friends along the way.

Later

Were you looking for the adjustable lift arm on your three point? Did you try that fellow parting out the Super 55 on ebay, or there is an ad in the last HPOCA of a guy parting out a Super 55. His email is [email protected]. I emailed him about a PTO shield and never heard back, so I don't know if it is valid. Maybe my Canadian address scared him off.
