Have a 88 row crop puller and when you open the thottle at the start of the track and there is really no load under the tractor it barks or surges how ever you what to look at it. We tighted the spring on the trottle but now it is hard to get the rpms down where we need them. Is the a way to adjust the governor to take that out. Thanks for your replys.

There is a jamnut and screw on the front of the governor housing that takes a 7/16 wrench. this is the bumper screw and adjusting it will take the surge out of it if all of the other adjustments are correct. it has a small spring on the end of it and most of the time they are either missing or broken. take the screw completely out and make sure the spring looks good, it should be about 1/2 inch long. adjust it in until the surge goes away, it will also affect the idle speed, but if everything else is adjusted right you can turn it back down to where it should be.

On the front of the governor housing, which is attached to the front timing cover, you will see a 7/16" bolt head with a jam nut. Screw this bolt head in a little at a time just enough to eliminate the surging and reset the jam nut. This is called a bumper screw and is designed for just this purpose, to eliminate the surging governor under little/no load.

Does it stop after the load increases?
