Getting ready to paint our 1975 Oliver 550, and was wondering if AGCO is the best paint to use with a little hardener with it. The tractor will be used very little in the field(baling and raking hay) but will be used in some parades also. Thanks for any thoughts or experience with paints. Bryan

ng, I just bought the tractor myself, and at this time I don't want to sell it. Thanks to all who gave some advice on paint. Bryan

Bryan: I have used DuPont Centari Acrylic Enamel paint with hardner and fish eye with excellent results on a number of vehicles. The Acrylic Enamel with hardner gives an excellent glossy shine and is durable. The DuPont paint code for the 550 is Oliver Meadow Green # 5316 and the Clover White/GS001+ 6 grams of 8071(Black),+ 7 grams of 841 yellow per pint. All of the Oliver paint codes are on www.oliverinformation.com web site. If you have any questions email me. Greg

I have painted several tractors using AGCO paint and I do not like using hardener with it. I tried several different grades of NAPA hardener and it all seems to put a milky haze in the finish. I have been very pleased with thinning it and putting NAPA's econobody clearcoat on top. makes for a excellent finish.

It was suggested to me that AGCO would be a good source for my Super 55, one reason being that you can easily touch up with a spray can. You might want to consider it if it is going to double as a work and parade tractor. Let me know what hardener you use. My dealer said he didn't put hardener in his paint. I had my rear wheels painted and when I had new tires installed I had to touch up where they got nicked in the mounting process.
