Looking for an easy conversion for the OC-3, want to go to a single wire alternator 12 volt NEG GROUND. Also does anyone know of an alternator that is about the same diameter as the generator, that will slip right in???Need to know what to get and where to buy. Would like to here any and all ideas. Trying to keep close to original looks with better performance.Trying not to have to put an alternator with a new bracket that will stick too for out of engine compartment. thanks very much, Glen

Don't know about the one wire deal. That's usually accomplished on some of the Delcos by installing a custom self-exciting internal regulator. As far as small diameter goes, I've been using alternators off of Subarus instead of Delcos. If anything, they're better quality and much more compact but do require a two-wire hookup. But, even though they're more compact and smaller in diameter, they're not going to fit an original HG or OC3 generator bracket. I'm assuming you want to retain the original appearance and also only have the adjustable water-pump pulley sheave for belt adjustment? It that is the case, seems you ought to find a 12 volt generator of the same physical size (there's lot of them around) - or - if you're dead set on an alternator, contact one of the ubiquitous Ford Model T parts dealers. They make and sell special small diameter 12 volt alternators that are made to take the place of the original 6 volt generators and retain the original appearance. I've been told they use the guts off a large motorcycle alternator to build them, like a Honda Goldwing or something.

Have you checked with a good electrical rebuild shop on converting your generator to 12 volt?

I've never seen an alternator that small, and never ever a one wire. Best one wire is a Delco, most auto parts store have them or can get them.
