I have a Super 88 diesel that I pull and am looking to get more power from the basically stock motor. I have put in bigger valves, and dynoed the fuel pump to the point it would start loosing power from being turned up too much. This is the only things I have done. What else can I do to get more power?

Adding the Roosa pump is a good start, I would love to add a turbo but if I did I would have to step into a different class and I couldn't compete against the 4020's & 1206's. What about bigger injector lines, lasered injectors and the 1800 intaker manafold. Wonder how much I could squeeze out of that? Then I guess the next step would be going into the engine, bored and stroked.

S88; I WOULD PEAK UP THAT TRACTOR FOR A DIRECT SELL. THEN BUY ANOTHER TRACTOR WITH MORE POWER, MORE BOOST, MORE TORQUE, MORE RELIABLE OR WHATEVER ASPECTS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. JUST PILE UP SOME MORE FUNDS. GOOD LUCK.

Adding a turbo would be the cheapest way out, but your rules may not allow it. If not, Shaving the head on the diesel engines is not a good idea because they are thin enough under the injector bores out of the factory, Probably the best single modifacation would be converting it to a roosa master injection pump. The bosch pumps were poor at best when they were new, at least for pulling. the roosa pumps have a quicker fuel delivery and a better governor. I have picked up 10 horse just by changing the pump with the correct timing and fuel setting. I 1800 A diesel intake manifold has quite a bit larger runners and bolts right on. get rid of the preheater and make a intake pipe with a good radius at the inlet, and if you want to go as far as getting into the engine, go with 3 7/8 bore pistons.

Thanks Brad, I'll probably go the roosa masterpump, lines and maybe bigger injector route. And the 1800 intake manifold,of course. I would love to add the turbo but that puts me in another class that I could not compete against the 4020's and 1206's. thanks

Can't say much since I don't know a lot about a diesel 88 but heres a couple good guesses, mill the head a little to up the compression, and or add a turbo. Of course if you add a turbo you wouldn't want to mill the head since it would do just about the same thing.

A turbo running at one atmosphere boost will double the incoming air charge, or there abouts, The amount permissible to mill off a diesel head is very limited and would have much less effect as no extra fuel could be effectivly burned. Decreasing the compression ratio and adding a turbo would be even better. Get more air in and more power out, as long as it stays on full boost.
