Just got my new 1949 Oliver 88 home. Looking to build the motor for pulling. Would like any and all advice on what to do and what parts to use. We have a lot of Big Farmall M's here and I would like to represent the Real Green if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance. Jason

Well, if you want to spend some money and make a hot rod, bore the motor out and put 4020 John Deere pistons in it. My 88 has the 3 3/4 inch pistons, and she kicks 57 horsepower. Even with tires that are 10%, she will whoop a John Deere G in the 7000 pound class that has 78 horse. I don't know if 57 hp will handle 7500, but in the 7000, she was running better than any tractor that I have around my place. Good luck!!

It all depends on how much money you want to spend and what your rules allow. Are you pulling in a speed limit class? What weight classes are you plsnning on pulling in? What tire size are you allowed to run?

I am not to worried about how much money it will take. We do not really have a rules for the motor except you can only go 10% over factory RPM's. We also have a 5 MPH buzzer on our sled. And we can run up to two sizes over standard. I plan on running 14.9-38's.

How much work is involved in going to a big crank like that

I know you have to do a little work to clear the cam, I think it set up for 70 rods. I think he also has the pistons for it, I think they were 4 3/8's.
