HI, Guys I have a 1650 oliver diesel(283ci) that just recently had an overhaul done on it, (900 hrs ago), its sat for 10 yrs almost doing nothing, and I bought it.

It starts well, runs good, but it is blowing engine oil(visible streams) out of the manifold where the manifold joins to the exhaust stack.

Did anyone know how I could remedy this easily with a minimum of work, or is it nothing to worry about?? Could it have something to do with the fact that it has sat for a long time?? Thanks for your info- Paul

Is it really oil or black unburned fuel? When they were new most farmers also purchased a new rear mounted cultivator and before they were broke in, they would cultivate with them and the same condition (if it unburned fuel) would show up. It is also called "wet stacking" or exhuast slober. Once they put a plow on and worked it good the condition would go away. Have you check the oil level? Does it go down quickly? How good is your thermostat? How hard are you working it? Is it the engine with the Lanova combustion chamber of the later direct injection 1650?

Thanks a lot for your fast response J. Schwiebert- I really appreciate it.

in answer to your questions

1.) I am not 100% sure, now that you mention it- it smells like oil/soot, but it could be unburt fuel mixing with the soot, and slobbering down.

2.) I have checked the oil level, and yes, it does go down, but VERY gradually- I think it burning a bit of oil- the pressure is too high, its around 50psi, and 45 hot idle

3.) My thermostat is about 1 month old, I just replaced it.

4.) Its a later direct injection model, does that make a diffence?

Thanks, Paul
