HPOCA Magazine - Explanation?

I'm disappointed. I finally received my over due HPOCA magazine. I was looking forward to the explanation regarding the HPOCA magazine editor change I was led to believe would be printed in the magazine. HPOCA President Terry Allen wrote on The HPOCA forum "I realize that many of you want more of an explanation, but that will have to follow in the proper forum, which is in the magazine." I waited even though I don't think the magazine is the best forum to disseminate information in a timely manner this day and age. The internet is fast and dynamic. I'm not aware of many companies, clubs or organizations that don't use the internet to provide information and accept feedback. We could be waiting months, or more, depending on how late the magazine is for the next issue. But I respected Terry Allen's request to wait for the magazine. However, I didn't find any additional explanation in the magazine. Did I miss something or was that just a stall tactic? Without the explanation that Terry Allen said we deserve I have other questions. How many of you have been waiting for the magazine like I have? Unless someone can tell me were I missed the explanation in the magazine I think it is time to take it to the internet. What do you think?

By the way, I posted this here because to much is getting deleted on the HPOCA forum. I do not feel it is an open forum. This one is. Besides more people read this one and I like it better.

Today I finally got my copy of the magazine; like you I was disappointed to see that there was no more information published about the "change in editors". What was there was almost verbatim from the HPOCA forum - absolutely nothing new - nothing to explain to the membership why the only contact most of us ever had with the HPOCA was terminated. I AM a paid member of the HPOCA; as such I expected an explanation why an employee of the club (i.e. the MEMBERS of the club) was terminated. I also would like to know why the magazine's printer was changed, why the club is now paying two editors and a graphics design firm to do the job formerly done by one individual; a person, I might add, that everyone that I know has been happy with. I am sending a copy of this posting to the president of the HPOCA; I'll let you know what he says. I live in upstate NY, since the winter get together of the club is not too far away this year - I'm going. If I don't get satisfactory answers there, there will be no reason to belong to the organization.
I hope that the former editor of the magazine, as a member of the club, does come to the winter get togther; her presence will allow for a much more timely exchange of information, and maybe we'll finally find out what happened.
Jim

I am curious as to the reasons myself, but like Terry said in his letter, you cannot discuss an employees record in public. I agree with him on that point. I am a teacher and I would be dismissed if I put anything out to the public about a students performance or record. It is not ethical.

It is disturbing to see this organization splitting up, loosing valuable members and fighting between people who's common interest is really having a love of Oliver tractors. I certainly don't know who is right and who is wrong, and I don't have any suggestions to get the two sides together. I truly hope that things calm down. I liked Sherry's dedication to the magazine, and I have emailed her more than once over the years to let her know. However, she is not the editor now, and that's the way it is.

I think some people want to just move on and make the best of what we have. Things happen and sometimes we may not like them but we just have to live with it. Afterall, the board has made its decision, so why continue to beat the horse! The new magazine is very nice and surely will get better each time. It's about Olivers not who lost their job and why. Olivers, Olivers, Olivers, thats what the organization is all about. As for the explanation, maybe it will be printed in the national enquirer, thats more their speed!

I am not a member of HPOCA but have been following with interest. I have to take issue with your statements. After September 11 it took a while to figure out who was responsible, when we were ready to move is it your contention that "things happen and sometimes we may not like them but we just have to live with it"? I don't think so!
You see that is how dictators and manipulators gain and maintain control without force. Take the action then let time pass waiting for the furor to die down hope the people will act like sheep and just accept the bad thing that just happened to them.
This case is not nearly as deadly as September 11 but it is a good extreme example. The time for action is rapidly approaching--time to vote. Time to propose new ways to select the board. Given a reasonalbe resolution to this issue I will reconsider my decision to not join. Had I been a member at the time I would be voting!

I didn't lose anyone that I personally knew on 9/11, but as a Professional Firefighter I did lose 343 brothers I never met. Please kept them, and all the others who persihed that day in mind when you are using it as a comparison for a person losing their job. "not nearly as deadly." How about "Not even important."? Sherry got fired and got a letter explaining why. She is the only one who can print that, the board out of line to. If they had no grounds, she'd have a job. If she could defend the letter, she'd print it. Think twice before using 9/11 as a trivial event to compare with a staffing change.

I was tryinh to get a point across--Doug got it.
After 9/11 we, as citizens, did not forget and move on with the statement "Bad things happen; there is nothing we can do". We have invaded two countries and imprisioned or killed hundreds of terrorists and its not over yet.
The same attitude of not forgetting has to apply here. With the announcement of Landis Zimmerman's resignation I have come to believe there is something seriously wrong. The organization is starting to come apart. The members will get ONE chance to keep it together. If the attitude is: that happened a "long" time ago, nothing we can do, lets move on; Then this organization is gone.

I do not believe VADAVE was comparing the tragedy of 9/11 to my termination. There is no comparison to the event itself. He was merely pointing out that it takes time to learn who is behind some events that happen. And that will happen in this case too.

I was not an employee of the HPOCA. I was simply an independent contractor hired to provide a service. My contract could be terminated at any time with out having a reason. It's no different than you changing service providers with your long distance company.

Yes, I can post the termination letter. I have nothing to hide. But what would that gain me? It isn't going to get my job back. All it will do at this point is breed more hostility. It won't change what has happened. Anyone who is a member of the HPOCA has my phone number. If they want to know what the letter says, they can call me and I'll read it word for word.

While you may consider what has happened to me "not very important", if you were in my shoes, you would think different. This has already forced me to sell my horse so that I could take temp jobs out of town. If something else doesn't come up soon, I will also be forced to sell my house, new shed and 10 acres so that I can relocate to an area where there are jobs. While I don't expect your sympathy and wouldn't dare compare this to 9/11, I DO consider what has happened "very important."

No Way, should we move on and forget about it. On the HPOCA site they said that it was not the place for the explanation. We were promised a full explanation in the upcoming magazine. Now we are told that the magazine is also not the place for a full explanation. Face it, the president and board screwed up and doesn't want to admit it. They just love the people who say "move on" . A good person lost her job over this, and it's not fair how it was handled. If there are such valid reasons for ending her contract, we have yet to hear them. The HPOCA board has been censored, and so is the magazine, any dissenting opinions or anything that gets close to the truth gets silenced.

The HPOCA is now officailly a clique of sneaks and scoundrels. The only good honest man left on the board, Mr Lanis Zimmerman announced tonight he is stepping down from the board for obvious reasons. Its such a shame the oliver community has come to this. UNBELEIVABLE!!!!!

Yes, it is a shame he HAD to resign, but it looks like he had little choice considering the recent events and the boards arrogant attitude towards the members. I'm sure a lot of members will also be leaving with him.
