550 hydraulic pump

I had to pull the hydraulic pump on my 550 and found the o-ring blown on the end cap.
Pump was in excellent shape otherwise, and a lot of trouble for a 50c o-ring.
The 4 bolts holding this end plate on do not have lock washers, and every other bolt on the pump does.
Is there a reason why these bolts do not have lock washers. (The picture in the I&T manual does not show lock washers either).
I installed lock washers and am wondering if I did the right thing.

The four bolts you are talking about were put in when Vickers asssembled the pump. I probably have had 20 or so different Vickers pumps both vane and piston that I have used from time to time when I taugh some part of a hydraulic pump class. None have ever had lockwashers. However the other bolts were put in by someone in Charles City and yes they all have lockwashers. I do know those 4 bolts have a definate torque value and should be tighten to that value. How many head bolts have you seen that have lock washers, and if you torque them right, they do not work loose either.

Thanks for the info.
This hydraulic system was completely rebuilt bofore I bought the 550 (the push rod went through the pan) and none of the bolts were very tight. The O-ring on the end cap popped out under these four bolts and was pumping the hydraulic oil into the transmission. I would never have thought that that much hydraulic fluid could disappear that quick.
A lot of trouble and expense for loose bolts.

I wonder if anybody would know the correct torque?

Phil
