I LIKE THIS 880 BUT WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE LEFT BRAKE PEDAL? I'M USED TO INTERNATIONALS OR MASSEYS WHERE YOU CAN OPERATE BOTH BRAKES WITH YOUR RIGHT FOOT AND THE CLUTCH WITH THE LEFT. ON MY OLIVER THE LEFT BRAKE PEDAL'S PLACEMENT MAKES IT DIFFICULT AND EVEN UNSAFE TO USE THE CLUTCH AND BOTH BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME. IS THERE A TRICK I NEED TO LEARN TO STOP WITH BOTH BREAKS? DID OLIVER CHANGE THIS IN LATER MODELS? SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN.

ONE OTHER QUESTION- THERE IS A THICK BATTERY CABLE HOOKED TO A SWITCH ON THE DASH THAT GOES TO SOMETHING ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. IS THIS SOME KIND OF A HEATER TO MAKE IT START EASIER OR WHAT?

The answer to your first question is the center link between the two brake pedals is what is used to stop with both brakes. You sometimes have to set up both brakes so that they are even. When they came out with the newer models such as a 1600, they had both brakes on one side similar to an M, 560, etc. Setting up the brakes is easy to do, all you need is a couple of wrenches.

Yes the cable from the switch on the dash is to a preheater on the intake manifold. You would have to get a operator's manual to learn how to use it properly.

The question I have for you is did you really get this 880 for $50? The tractor usually goes for at least $1,000 if it runs. Please respond.

Bill-
Thanks for the response. Yes, I did get it for $50.00. I have a friend that works at the local bank who knew I was looking for a used tractor. He told me about this one and they were asking for a sealed bid. I looked at it but It was still at the farm of the past owner who lost it to the bank because he missed a few payments. That didn't make me feel right, so I didn't offer a bid. A few months later, my friend called me up and asked if I was interested because nobody else made an offer and they needed it off the farm. He said with an offer of $50.00 it was mine!
