60 Question

I was wondering why the steering actuated brakes on the early 60 Row Crop's were dropped? We had a 1941 Cockshutt 60, and it had those. I thought it was a great system. When Oliver came out with the 5 speed 60, did the designers maybe think the steering brakes could get somebody into trouble with the higher speed capability?

I used to like watching a brake pedal seemingly go down on it's own when I turned sharp while maneuvering in the barnyard. :-)

I'm not sure why they did away with that style of braking. I know the early 70's also had this design. I can't say for sure if the newer 70's had it. It might have been a safety concern. I could see how it would help in turning though. Jeff.

Steering brakes were dropped with the 5 speed trany. I remember seeing dad go across the yard with the cockshutt 60 and george white spreader turning the wheel to steer with brakes because the front tires were off the ground most of the time.
