Since for some reason I am not able to post on the tractor pulling forum, I will do it here and hope you check in. As far as bore, stroke, and rod combination if you want about 400 cid, go with about 4.375 bore and 4.5 stroke. stock rods are not the best way to go because of their length and the poor rod ratio you end up with. 251 chrystler rods work great. 2.125 journal, 7.875 long, .860 stock pin. a 2.625 rod journal 99 crank works great for this because you can offset grind to fit that rod and end up with a 4.5 stroke and a pressure lubed rod journal. the only catch is that you have to use custom pistons with this because of the .960 compression distance you need to maintain a .030 quench with a .060 head gasket. the good part is that this is also the correct piston you need for 5.75 stroke and farmall C rods if you decide to go that route in the future. You probably know that if you order a custom piston you can get a .866 pin and the stock bushing will hone to fit. 4.375 x 4.5 = 406 cid. This combination can go 5000 rpm with no fear and also works great for speed limit and rpm classes, produces a perfect 1.75 rod ratio, is fairly economical to build, and requires no more maintenence than a stock tractor. Not sure if you have connections on sleeves, but I have ductile iron sleeves ready to go on the shelf
