Vee

Lyle Dumont has the decals that you need. You can reach him at oliver@lisco.com or 641-622-2592. They have excellent decals at a reasonable price.

Very interesting thread.

What differentiates a common 550 from a Special other than paint scheme? Curious in FLA.

I really can't tell you sorry. That is the problem I'm having there are alot of differences and alot alike. Frank Dodson has the closest thing to mine I have seen on the net. He has a pic on this web site of his and everything looks alike except the wheels on the back tires. My tires have spiral ajustable steel bars where as Frank's has solid back wheels.

I have a 1964 550 Special Model 55-2103, serial 149805-019. You can see this tractor in the photo gallery and a close up of the decal in the Parts and Pieces gallery. I haven't had to replace distributer, generator but I know the carburator is the same carb. put on some of the regular 550's.

GOD BLESS YOU! YOUR TRACTOR IS JUST LIKE MINE AND THE DECAL PICTURE IS PERFECT. IS THERE MORE PICTURES OF YOUR TRACTOR ON THIS WEB SITE? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM. IT IS THE ONLY TRACTOR PICTURE ON THE INTERNET THAT EVEN LOOKS CLOSE TO MINE.

I agree serial number or spec number would be a good start. The Oliver shop manual would also be a much bigger help as the IT manual is not going to cover all the bases. You can purchase a copy of the Genuine Oliver shop manual at the Floyd County Museum, phone 641-228-1099.

How about a serial number and a spec number which is located on a plate down by the clutch petal on the center frame. If it is a 1964, the engine number will be Stamped on a boss near the geerator. That would be a start.

Just checked your distributor number. Three different distributors were used. 1112618 was replace by distributor number 1112463 which is the one where the cap is held on by two screws instead of clips. 1112555 was the first distributor and may have only been used on the 3-1/2 inch bore engines (1959 models) The difference between your rear wheels and Frank's rear wheels are you have the optional power shift rear wheels. I am still trying to figgure out what to be specific you are having troubles with between your tractor and the I & T manual. I & T manuals can be both helpful as well as vague. I was talking once to a guy who wanted a part for a Super 66 and he was going by the manual and the manual said early & late where is should have said Super or Fleetline. Is your I & T manual for both the Super 55 & 550? Remember the first one of any model is not like the last run of them and for as many years as they made 550's there are many little changes.

Thank you. My manual is for Super and 550. Just everything we were looking at on-line nothing looked like ours. I was just wanting to replace decals and parts and colors back as close to origanal as possible and we could not figure out what kind of tractor we really had. This web site and all who have anwsered questions for me have been wonderful. I also found out that the wheels are called spin-out rims. Again thank you all so very much!!!!!

I was over at my friends dealership today. Your tractor should have the black letter (numbers) decals. The white ones quit at serial number 110-xxx(something) I did not see a listing for the special decals and my microfishe reader is not working. You can also post at www. oliverhartparr.org and get some good advice. Yes, there are many difference between your tractor an the early 550's let alone the Super 55 models.

At least we are started. 45-0037 is the spec number. 140 625 is the serial number and there should be a three digit number after that, most likely (519 or 019) which is the transmission code. You have a couple of digits too many on the engine serial number. The tractor is a 1964 model. The 550 started production in 1958. In 1959 the bore of the engine was increased by 1/8 inch. What is your specific question

A couple of things. More than one model of generator was used durring the production of this tractor, the same for the carburetor and does your distributor have two screws or two clips that hold the cap on?

a friend of mine who is an Agco dealer works on a couple of 550 specials from time to time. The 3-point is different on one of them. The special was a marketing thing. There were also 1750 & 1850 specials. They were painted a little different to identify them and they changed some things to make them attractive to sell at a little bit of a reduced cost. However the 17 & 1850 specials were made a few years after your 550 was built.
