Well I got the 88 torn down. I am getting ready to pull the engine out of the frame. I was wondering about how the coupler shaft comes apart on the drive shaft. It looks like a slip coupler. Should i leave it intact and pull the shaft out of the clutch, or disassemble it? I found a good set of pistons 4-1/8 bore flat tops to install when I finally get #4 to come out!! HA HA!! I was surprized that all of the bolts came out with no problems. I need a good intake/exhaust manifold for 88 gas. Chad

Chad,
Slide the pto out about 18 inches or more. Remove the bolt in the side of the coupler and collapse the clutch shaft and coupler into each other. This will allow the clutch shaft to be removed as the engine moves forward. This makes life much easier.

Chad, it will probably beeaiser if you haven't already done so to pull the PTO unit from the back . That shaft runs through the splined drive coupler and into the crank I think. However if your only going to pull the motor I would probably just leave the splined coupling hooked up. Don't quote me on that as I have only been inot the clutch and stuff on one once and it was a few years ago.We took the PTO out and unhooked the splined shaft also.
