I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST OLIVER FOR $50.00. IT IS IN MUCH BETTER SHAPE THAN THE PRICE WOULD CAUSE YOU TO BELIEVE! IT IS AN 880 DIESEL. THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH IT IS IT LEAKS OIL OUT OF THE INJECTOR. IT STARTS EASILY AND RUNS GREAT. IT NEEDS PAINT, BUT NOT UNTIL I WORK IT FOR A SUMMER. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY COULD GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ABOUT IT- THE YEAR THESE WERE BUILT, THE HORSEPOWER, ARE THEY A RELIABLE TRACTOR, WHAT KIND OF DIESEL MOTOR IS IN IT ETC. ALSO DOES ANY ONE KNOW OF THE INJECTOR PROBLEM HAPPENING TO A SIMILAR TRACTOR? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Ron, it is a little confusing because first you say it is leaking from an injector and then you say from the pump by the throtle. If it is at the pump it could just be an o-ring. Typical for these. But the best advise that has been given many times here is to buy a manual and then decide if it is a job you want to attempt. Since you don't know how to fix it and you stole the tractor I think you could afford to take it to a good mechanic and get it fixed so you can use it. I would still get the manual though.

Does it leak oil or fuel out the injector? Or are you saying it leaks oil out of the injector pump? Leaking return lines off the injectors is a common problem.

DENNIS-
THE OIL LEAKS OUT OF A HOLE WHERE A ROD THAT RUNS FROM THE THROTTLE CONNECTS TO A SHAFT ON THE INJECTOR PUMP. DOES THIS TELL YOU ANYTHING? ANY IDEA OF AN EASY WAY THAT IT CAN BE FIXED WITHOUT THE AID OF A DIESEL MECHANIC?

The little seal that goes on the shaft is exspensive (approx $15) and is no bigger around than a quarter. They are available. This is a simple fix, the governor constantly moves depending on throttle position and work load. After years of movement the rubber gets hard and wears and possibly even slightly groves the shaft. The "tang" that screws on the end of the shaft can be removed but leave the jam nut on the inside in place and return it after replacing the seal to it's same position. Also, check the oil line (usually an 1/8inch copper tube on the bottom of the injector pump) to make sure it isn't crimped. Have fun and play big with the brute.
