Oliver 1950T vs 1850

I've been looking for an Oliver 1850. I have
found an Oliver 1950T for about 1/2 what
I've seen 1850's going for. The 1950T is a bigger
tractor, has a cab, runs the Waukesa motor.
The 1850's run the Perkins motor, usually have
no cab.

Think I should jump on that 1950T?
We're talking around $4K, in reasonably good
condition.

Please let me know asap. In two weeks, it
goes to an auction.

Yes, absolutely. The 1950T is a great tractor, even if you do have to overhaul the engine, which you will probably need to do eventually if it has never been done. If you do get the motor overhauled, do it yourself or take it to someone who knows the 310 Oli/Waukesha and how to do the job right. This means make sure they get the crankshaft rebalanced properly, otherwise your "new" 310 will shake just as bad as it probably does now if it hasn't been overhauled and you'll be doing the job again in 2-3000 hours or so. If the job is done right, though, you can expect these motors to really perform-better than the Perkins in the 1850s. Good luck and enjoy your 1950T.
