SOUNDS LIKE A TRACTOR PULLER QUESTION WE HAVE GUYS PUTTING 18.4 BY 38 ON 880 WE MADE THEM TA KE THEM OFF IN OUR CLUB AS NO ONE COULD COME UP WITH THE DOCUMENTATION FROM OLIVER THAT THIS WAS ONE TIRE SIZE OVER. OUR TIRE RULE IS ONE SIZE OVER FACTORY SIZE SO IF MAX FACTORY SIZE IS 16.9 BY 38 THEN YOU CAN RUN 18.4 BY 38. BUT AN 880 CAME WITH 15.5 BY 38 WHEN NEW AS MAX TIRE SIZE UNLESS YOU GOT A WHEATLAND WHICH CAME WITH 16.9 BY 34 OR 23.1 BY 26

Was it a 16.9x34 or was it a 16-34, now a 18.4x 34?

I do not think that there ever was a 16-34 tire. There were 15-34/18.4-34 tires and they were such on a 16-34 rim.

I have seen a few 16-34 tires on 99's. I think it designated tread width instead of section width or something to that effect. 11-38, now 12.4x38 12-38, now 13.6x38 and so on.

15.5 was probably the most popular size. However if memory serves me correctly, the tractor they tested at Nebraska was equipped with 16.9 X 34. I do not think 16.38 tires were available back then.
