Oliver 1600 or Farmall 706?

I am having a hard time deciding between the two. The Oliver is a deisel and a little less horse power than the Farmall. But I am not familiar with oliver. Any info would be appreciated such as pros and cons and value!

could you send me a picture? I have a 706 diesel,
If my Dad did not stop farming in the early 80's, it would still be going strong like our Farmall Hydro 70 diesel. If I could see a picture, I could tell the diff.

The oliver 1600 gas is a good tractor, my grandpa bought one brand new in 63 and its still goin strong, but i heard there is a problem with the deisil engines and they break very often. I would say go with the oliver because it is most likely worth more, but if you want something to work with, go with the farmall because you can get any nesessary parts easier.

I own a 1963 Oliver 1600 gas. My dad bought in new in 1963. Outside of needing some brake work, a couple of exhaust gaskets and the gas tank boiled out, it runs like a new one. I live in Illinois, and in the winter it can get pretty cold. That was the tractor we counted on to start, even when it was tweny below. My dad quit farming in 1989, and after that we didn't use it as much, so the gas went bad in the tank. It gummed up the carburetor and tank, so I'm in the process of fixing that. If you buy that 1600, I swear you won't regret it!

The oliver is going to be a rare tractor do to the limited run.The 706 is a nice tractor alot of parts around,the german diesel is worth more.Drive both and decide for yourself is about the only thing you could do.P.S the 1600 or 1650 or 1655 did not come with the 310D.

Both are very good. The Oliver is a great tractor, my neighbor works a 30 year old 1655 with the diesel 310 hard every day. The International might be easier to get parts for, unless you are near an AGCo dealer. I'd kind of lean towards the Oliver, myself.

I was at an auction recently, an overheard there was an inherent problem with the 706's. Can't remember what it was, so ask around first. My uncle has a 55, 1600d,1750d,and a 1955d. He has
had the 1600 since I was a kid(am 35). The only
thing he replaced was the muffler. Take care of them, they take good care of you.
