I got a question maybe you guys could answer for me, I have a Cockshutt 1900, and am goin pulling with it, now please don't harass me about being stock, please just answer my question if you can. How hard would it be to put a 4-71 in place of the 4-53?? could it be done, would you have to grind out the bottom of the tub to clear the oil pan, a fella told me he saw one done once, and it fit well except for the tub, thus they ground it around the edges to clear the pan. How long is the 4-53 engine and pan, compared to the 4-71. Hope you guys can help, thanks for advice in advance. David

Well, the the 3-71 can give you a nice edge two... i herd of a guy with a 3-71 in a Super 99 oliver that reved 3000 RPM. and he pulled great 3 pull threws and each time he was flagged to stop he used to pull the sled right threw and did a big U'ee in the feild and came back around.. I got a a Detroit diesel feild service book i can send you injectors numbers and turbo numbers and ways to set the govener for power my father worked for detroit for 30 years and knows all the trics....
