Well, we tried to shell some corn this weekend. Yes we still have corn standing, some with water still standing around it. Tried to get some shelled over the weekend and ended up getting hung up more that we got shelled. All part of the fun I guess. Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

You need a 6x6 army truck. I've got one of those and there great for a short distance farm truck. I know what a wet years are like been there alot. Spraying with a 77 with duals and still getting stuck. 6 row 30" equpment on the 2255 mfwd with duals, towing the combine backwards all the time and the wagons always stuck. Takes 4 times the amount of time to do any thing. Would be lost with out MFWD and duals. Good luck

Hey Man!
Bit late for corn ain't it? Looks like y'all had a long nite. I am surprised you just didn't run out there with that 2150. Hope you get all that corn in. I am already getting ready for planting in Feb. HOWEVER, if it as wet as last yr. during planting time I am STAYING out of the fields.

Yup, its real late.... I will just be glad to get it at all at this point.

I finally did have to go out there with the 2150 and get it out, but it was stuck over 10 miles from where the tractor was sitting, sooooo after a long late night ride on the tractor..... . I was really hoping the blue oval could pull it out, but it didnt even move it.

Suppose to get real cold here by Wed, so Im hoping it all will freeze and we can run on frozen ground. Oh the fun..... .

You may be able to plant you 550 again this spring if you dont watch out. Maybe it will grow up to be a bigger tractor if you keep planting it????? :>)

Funny thing though, I thought all Ollie drivers were Chevy guys? LOL :)

Not wanting to do anymore 550 planting :) Checked back on that 1950 and still no response. My offer on the White 2-105 went unanswered. Must have insulted him I guess. Jack over in Tallahassee has a couple of bigger Olivers I want to go over and look at.

A 1650 WFE Dsl would be just about right but until I find one I will just keep adding to the tractor fund. That little AC G is for the boys as last yr. they plowed more under than they cultivated. I got a real good deal on that rig - only $400 for it and the implements.

Will be coming your way in late July 2005 with my BSA Troop for Nat'l Scout Jamboree at Ft. AP Hill. I would like to stop over for and see you on the way up and on the way back.

PS - just joking about that Blue Oval :)

Sounds great, you are always welcome around here.

I know you have been looking for a while for a bigger tractor, just take your time, the perfect one is out there somewhere.

And dont joke about the blue ovals, we have 4 big oval diesel pickups. I know, I know, everyone thinks I should be running a ram with the Cummins engine in them, but there is nothing wrong with that big V-8 Powerstroke. I just got a new one about 6 months ago to pull my trailers with. I picked up a 2000 Ford F-350 dually diesel to go along with my 91 green ford you saw in the picture. The green one has 160K on it and still doing good, just not very reliable anymore.

C ya in the weeds.....

Hey Shep. I hear you about all the rain. We have had almost 23inches all year. I posted picture in gallery section of us chopping iwth Duetz pulling Oliver. Did all the chopping that way with two tractors. Still have yet to be able to shell. Hope it freezes up this week so we can. Happy New Year, Marc

We were able to get over all the ground chopping with the Ih 5088 2wd and didnt get the chopper hung up. We did manage to get a few wagons stuck and I broke a running gear under the Myers wagon trying to pull a loaded wagon and a tractor out backwards. Oh well, I wanted a tandum gear under that wagon anyway.

I have never seen a mounted chopper, how does that work?? I bet that was a real bear having to chop and being pulled at the same time, I cant imagine.

I tell you, we have sunk tractors and cut ruts in fields that it will take years to repair. I was baling some fodder last thursday and the round baler was cutting in 1 to 2 inches everywhere in the field. Its a wonder we didnt get a tractor hung up in the field we were baling in.

As soon as it drys out the 2150 and the DMI ripper have a lot of soil compaction to remove....

Shep,
Is it normal in your area to have corn out in the field this time of year? When do you usually plant? How many day corn do you plant? How did that hurricane effect the crops? Never been in that part of the country, just curious. Thanks, Steve

Shep up in the mountains which affects the weather a lot. Down here in the flat ground (east of Richmond) we can plant late March or early April and harvest in September. Beans come off in November. Course that's sdouble crop beans after wheat.
Hey Shep I was going to say pulling the truck should be easy with with the 2150 or the 1355.

Yup, thats what it took Dave. Problem was it was getting dark as you can see and the big tractors were over 10 miles away. Long ride in the dark, least it wasnt too cold. I was REALLY hoping the pick up would get it out, I had the power, just not enough weight.

We still have about 30+ acres to go and the combine is back in the field this morning running agenst the coming rain.

Re: Re: Having fun on the weekend in reply to Steve, 01-04-2004 15:42:14
No its not normal at all. Normally we plant corn at the end of april first part of may and we will chop what corn we need for silage about the end of August at about 45% moisture or so, and then we will let the corn dry down until Oct or Nov until it gets dry enough to shell without having to dry it too much.

This year it was a real wet spring and a lot of corn did not get planted until late may or even june, we were trying to run short season corn and then the rain just never quit. The hurricane did have some impact on trying to get corn off but that was mostly during chopping time.

The rain just has not let off enough to get the heavy equipment in the fields and then when we do it tries to sink. Just been a real frustrating year to try to get crops done. I hope 2004 is a little better. Corse we have to get 2003's crops finished first :>) Only have 40 more acres to go, so we "might" get done this week.

Where are you at Steve??

Iowa. Planting/harvesting dates are the same as up here. Look on the bright side..... You're double-cropping in 2004! How cold do your winters get? I see in your pics you get snow. Ground must not be froze yet? Good Luck.

I hate to tell ya, but more rain is on it's way. Waters standing everywhere around here. At least it's supposed to turn cold enough to freeze. Be nice to walk on solid, albeit frozen, ground for a change.

Yeah, I just saw the weather this morning and what was "supposed" to be showers today looks like rain. We unloaded the truck this morning and dad was going to the field to see if he can get stuck again before it rains. Looks like it may freeze later this week, maybe we can get finished after the freeze.

Know your feeling Shep. We had a hard enough time trying to chop corn silage about a month ago. We put our 1855 4wd on the chopper because it was flat land. We normally use the 2-180 which is only 2wd with duals on. The 1855 with the 4wd went better for a while until it go swamped. The front tire was in 3/4 of the way and the back tires were in a little less than a foot below the axle. Which I had a picture. Needless to say we couldn't pull it out forward with the 2-180 on fairly solid ground. I had to hook up to the back of the chopper up to the 3rd link to pull it out and I was spinning then. You could only imagine! We got about 25 acres to shell yet up here in central PA. We still have low lying ground to chop corn yet if the ground decides to freeze. Can't shell it because it was planted too late due to the wet spring. Oh well, just have to let nature do its thing.

Yup, I am soooo tird of pulling machines out of the mud this year. We sunk the 1850 trying to spread turkey litter, sunk a simi with 900 bu of corn last spring, sunk the 1655 with the hay wrapper, and buried another tractor to the haybine last spring. The 2150 has had a chain hanging on the back of it all year to pull out machines. We have come close to sticking the combine, but I am hoping that it doesnt get stuck, that would be hard to pull out.

Oh well, last year we couldnt get any rain and everything died, so I guess we have to take what we get and just keep going.

Glad to hear Im not the only one getting stuck....
