I recently bought a Oliver Superior 38 Grain Drill in very good condition. I was wondering if anyone could give me any info. on it. What years were they made? Where can I get an owners manual for it? I also need a copy of a settings table as the mice have made mine into nest material. Mine has the #'s WP3016 20.6 or something close to that on the left rear of the seed box. Would this be the serial #,if so can anyone tell me the year. Thanks for any help.

Now the water is really going to get muddy. I had to go past this drill so I stopped to look again. This one is a 38. It has 12 openers on 7 inch spacing. The world Oliver only appears on the front behind the grass seeder where the words Oliver superior are painted on in large black letters. The W and then the next letter or number is missing and then the numbers 4428 are painted inside the box. It has a gear box(transmission) which reminds me a quite bit of a model 64. There was a little decal I though, in the lid of the left hand seed box with Oliver Springfield Ohio. I wanted to clean it up and it rubbed off so it is painted on too. Now I am getting interested to a higher level and more confused. Find me on the HPOCA and send me a U2U. This is getting to be good intertainment. John

I was cleaning and found my old serial number list or most of it. It got caught in a flood once.
I do not know if I ever seen a 38 when I worked at the dealership but according to my list they were made from 1950-1956. Serial number range is listed as 24276 to 36709 with no breakdown for years given. So maybe the big part of that number is the serial number.

Schwiebert, thank you for the info. I was thinking it was older than 1950-56. It has steel wheels that are about 5 feet high, and the whole inside of the hopper is made out of wood, which is why it just looked older than that to me. Do you know of anyone who would have parts for it? Thanks.

No I was surprised too on the years of production. Back in the early 60's we sold a lot of parts for the model 26 drill. I do not remember ever looking up parts for a model 38. Another interesting thing for a year or so both the 26 and the 38 drill were built. There is a drill not too far from here. It is yellow and has Superior in big black letters. It has an all metal seed box and no fertilizer. It set in an old barn in a little town and probably has not been used in 50 years. I would like to figure out what model it is. Where did you find your serial number?

I found my serial number on the back left hand side of the seed box on the very bottom. It is stamped on with yellow paint. Luckily mine has like new paint so the number is still very easy to see. Mine is Oliver green on the seed box with Oliver Superior across the front in big yellow letters. The Wheels and the disks are a sort of faded red. I also found the date July 12, 1938
on a tag on both transmissions, which is the date these were patented. Was the model 26 newer or older than the model 38?

I just thought of this. There was a man who came in there for parts and the owner of the dealership said that model did not sell in this area because the opener spacing was wider than for the 26. What is the spacing on your drill?

This info may or may not be of help. I have a 1946 advertisment of implements and it shows a model 38 drill. The picture is b&w but the box is very light and I assume it is yellow. Oliver appears on the left side in large dark letters and on the right is Superior. It has steel wheels.
No mention of the 26.
I have a 49-50 advertisement of Oliver implements that lists the 26 but not the 38. The 26 has a green box with Oliver Superior yellow, red steel wheels, levers etc.
I also have a 57 implement advertisement that list model 64 with green metal and red wheels on rubber.
