Could someone tell me about the long steering rod (from steering wheel through the radiator to the steering gear box) on Cockshutt 35? Is it a solid rod, or a tube? Diameter? What are the specs on the bushing on the steering wheel end? Mine is so cobbled up I can't tell what it was originally, and I don't think theres another Cockshutt within 50 miles to go look at. I think the 40 and 50 were the same. Thanks for any input.

Mike: on your restoration project, I might be able to help you w/ some aspects. I make grills and screens, battery boxes, decals for the Cockshutt 35. Thanks Keith

Is this the Mike from Chehalis I met at Toledo last year? You can look at my 40 or 50 if you want to. I am close to 50 miles away though but I doubt anyone else is closer. Tony

Please explain the difference between a 30 and a 35 Cockshutt and where does the Golden Arrow fit in. Thanks

Yeah, Tony, that's me. I was going to say 100 miles, but then I thought of you. Now that I know what its made of, thanks to Phil, I can probably make one. I looked at Phil's parts list, and think I'll end up ordering "one of each, please". If you're not acquainted with Phil Heisey, he's a very nice fellow- I met him at a Cockshutt auction in Kearny, Nebraska a couple of years ago. I look forward to doing business with him, once I have everything apart and have my parts list done. I may have to get down and see you one of these days, though, just on general principles.

Thank you both for your replies. I'll be ordering parts soon, Phil, and will be in touch with Irv on other aspects of the project.

Hi mike,

The overall length is 7 feet, 7 3/4 inches. The distance from the rear of the dash steering post casting to the end of the shaft is 11 1/4 inches on a Cockshutt 35 tractor. The shaft is Schedule 80, 7/8 inch diameter.
I have ALL the new bushings, bearings, seals, and steering wheels on stock and used parts if you need any to complete your Cockshutt steering rebuild project.

Mike, I will have to get out and measure one for you but you are correct the 40 and 50 are the same. Some are hollow and some are solid! The center of steering wheel should be drilled at the same diamiter of the rod and usually has a role pin driven through so it doesn't turn. As for the bushing I'm not sure what you are talking about please elaberate? You can post here or email me and I can help. We have several 35's as they are my favorite. Irv in western Pa
