Another good thing to do is to remove that little pipe plug in the manifold and plug in a vaccum gauge and take a reading and compare it to a chart. You may find their are other little items that need adjusting and if so take care of those . Most of the time a 770 will run very well

Hi Peter,
Sorry if answer to your post was a bit 'crude', but sometimes a reply which goes all the way round the houses but doesn't say what it means clearly, is about as good as the proverbial chocolate teapot! Glad you sorted it. You may find she is running a shade on the lean side - check your plugs for colour of deposits when you have been working her hard for a while and go from there.
Regards, RAB

Drain your tank and thread out the fuel line in the bottom of the tank. I'am betting that you will find the screen plugged with corrosion causing fuel feed troubles. Water even a little bit will act the same way. My own 770 needs to be cleaned at least once a year. If you don't mind a few non original parts I might recommend installing an parts store inline filter.

Hi Peter , RAB's reply may sound a little crude to you , but I have to agree with him. It's a fuel problem. I don't know why , but I've seen more olivers with this trate(runs better when choked) than any other tractor brand. I've had this happen at times myself , with my own olivers. Problem mostly in carb. But do check fuel line flow.

One thing I've seen is that the choke shaft was a half of a turn off when assembled, would run when choked and not when not choked, so you're choking when you think you're not.

peter, i think rab is right on, from info given. i had one do the same thing... pulled gas line off carb and only dripped out, then stopped in 5 seconds. try the line, and if it doesn't run steadily, you have crud in the intake hole in the bottom of your tank. if you like the taste of gas, blow up the line, or put your compressor blow gun on it. should open it up so gas runs out fast. if so, flush the tank, or pull the sediment bowl off, and slosh it around a bit. a big dead bug came out of mine. good luck ron

soundslike you missed something where you did the rebuild, did you remove the brass tube in the center of the carb it sits at a 45 degree angle, and clean out the holes in it, if not that is probably where your problem is

Not enough fuel. What else is there to say?
Sorry to say this, but 'problem' sounds like you!!
May be sucking air into intake manifold, may be partially blocked jet, may be wrong fuel level setting in carb, may be fuel supply limited in some way, may be wrong adjustment.
Can you tell us if it runs better for a short time, whether it is better (on choke) all the way up the rev range and under load. How much choke is needed to make it run better? Is there a good fuel supply (for more than just a few seconds)?
Why did you rebuild the carb in the first place and what did rebuilding entail?
Sorry, again, but on the information supplied, the first line is as far as I would be prepared to diagnose the problem at present.
Regards, RAB
