Hey guys,

Got a question. I have an Oliver 1800 A series with the Waukeshau diesel in it. Runs well and smooth at idle, low speed and mid range. However, it tends to misfire at full throttle somewhat and smoke some. Is it the pump, fuel, or injectors. I just got the tractor here and wanted some thoughts. Do not know much about the background. Has about 4000 hours.

My 1800 also does this after sitting over winter. I always have to add a little diesel injector cleaner and it runs perfect after you get some of it ran through system.

WO,

I will try it. Old said the same thing. I was figuring much worse that that. For once, the news is better than can be expected. I got an early X-mas present.

How about the filters how are they, sounds like it maybe starveing for fuel, check the filters and maybe add some diesel additive to make sure you don't have a water problem

Old,

I will try that. I just got is here yesterday and had a time starting it. It had fuel (smoke)but could not get it to fire. It finally fired and ran nice. The tractor has been sitting for a year or so nothing has been done to it. I will get the filters changed and add the additive. I never had a tractor do that before. It took me by surprise.

If it sat for that long I'd drain the fuel tank, and then put new fuel in it and the additive and also change the filters, any water and the fuel system don't mix well and if it does it can cost big $$$$

Old,

It has been sitting in WI for a year or so before getting it home. So, I have work to do on it and luck it is almost out of fuel anyway. I will dump it and start fresh. I have to do all the fluids anyway.

Thanks again,

DAVE

just my opinion, but we have added fuel treatment to our diesels religiously - except during the warmest summer months. that said, so far we have never had issues with misfiring or anything like that. some of the treatment out there will also help keep your fuel from geling if you are in a pretty cold climate...
