I'm the proud new owner of a 1969 Oliver 550.
I would like to operate the front loader with the tractors internal hydraulic system. In order to do this I need a standpipe field package 1E-2059. to increase the hyd. reservoir capacity.
Does anyone know where I can get one? Also I have acouple of questions about the front mounted vane pump that is now on the loader.
I'm not real good on the computer so its not easy for me to establish contact.
With a little help I will be able to get it.
Thanks
J.F.S.

John is right on using the front mounted pump for the loader, the internal pump is a vickers V10 rated at 3-4 GPM at 1800 RPM and is very slow. I have seen 550's at shows using the internal pump which would lift the front end using down pressure but still slow.

Your 550 has the updated pump capacity already, but take a bit of advice from one who has a loader run by internal hydraulics. Use the front mounted pump. They work much better. If the pump is shot, get a new one, they are much cheaper to get and fix than the internal oliver pump.

Ask your questions on: www.hartparr.org. it is an oliver site. What model front pump do you have? Vickers stamps their model number on the pump. Is the stand pipe kit for an early super 55 which had a small capacity hydraulic?

I'm not sure if it is a late model or not. The manual says it has a 9 quart reservoir and I know that the two single acting cylinders on the bucket lift use a little more that 3 quarts. The manual statesw about the standpipe kit for use with extra cylinders. So I am just asking.

The standpipe was used on the early 55'S and are identified by the filter on the left side and 2 filler caps in front of the seat, the rear is where the stand pipe would be used to increase capacty. The later 55'S and 550'S have the filler for the hydraulic behind the seat right side. The filter is mounted directly in front of the housing, capacity 9 quarts, extra fluid if a loader is used. The Vickers pump center section is stamped 1-9 indicating pump capacity.

O. K. you still have about 6 quart in there. You said I think they were single acting cylinders on the lift. Now I do not know if you are comparing apples to apples, but your 550 pump you said was rated @ 5 GPM and the front mounted pump the same.
If I remember correctly the 550 system and I have not done this since 1976 and I am old enough to , forget, (plus I have 99% of my manuals in storage probably until late winter so I can not look it up) was rated at 2000 RPM. Most hydraulic pumps like your front pump would be rated at 5 GPM at 1200 RPM. Therefore it could be up to 50% faster than the Oliver system. Also if it is quiet in neutral than once you find the problem it will be quiet when you use it. Do you have a pressure gauge that goes to 3000 PSI.
Also like Ajax asked, what model pump do you have a Vickers V-10? All these people are trying to help you, but we need some answers from you.
How about an e-mail address or post on the oliver/hartparr site like was mentioned and people can send you a U2U. Also do you have a remote valve to run a cylinder on your 550?

The tractor is kept up at my hunting property in the Whittemore area, so when I go up there this weekend I will get the model number off the front mounted pump. I have a pressure gage and will tap it into the system for some readings this week. The remote valve is a Cross 2 spool valve and relief package that seems to work o.k.
My email address is [email protected]. I am usually home in the evenings and on weekends. I am new to this type of communication and really appreciate your assistance.
I recently purchased this tractor and the loader was mounted but the hydraulics were not working. When I finally got the pump properly mounted and working I found that the directional valve leaked so badly that I had to replace it with the Cross valve. Having accomplished this I am now trying to decide weather it might be better to use the tractor system to operate the loader.
The vickers pump was rebuilt by myself by replacing all the vanes, pump ring, seals, and bearings as well as finish stoning both end plates.
I know this message is lenghty but you need to know some of these things in order to render some suggestions.
Thank you John from Saginaw
