...to sticking more money into our 1755. We rented the 2-85 white from the dealer, has a Hiniker cab on and almost 5,000 hrs, but runs nice. We might inquire about the price they are asking, and maybe plug in our 1755 for a while and see if it will start. Ya know.. a running tractor needing OH is worth more than a non-running tractor. Still turns over, so might not be too bad after all, just glad I shut it down right away. We also found a loader we can mount on our Massey 285, quick-tatch farm hand for $2250, complete with mounting brackets. Now we just may have to talk to the bank and mother. Too bad we can't get that shed up now to store it in... IF we buy it. I'm game, but I still gotta have my dad drive it. So far he liked what he saw. It pulls our 3-16 565 plow great, with minor changes from our 1755. Hopefully, we can finally end the financial nightmare our 1755 turned out to be. I'll keep you guys posted...

Don-Wi,
Your thread reads 'Ya know.. a running tractor needing OH is worth more than a non-running tractor. Still turns over, so might not be too bad after all, just glad I shut it down right away'
Should I read this as meaning starting enough to part exchange or sell? It sounds like if you start it for anything else, then there is a risk that a rod may appear quite soon!!
Remember, the dealer is likely to give you little more than they would have knocked off the price as a direct (non p/exchange) sale discount!!
Regards, RAB

Maybe I Should have re-phrased that a little bit. If we do get rid of it, it would simply be trade in. The dealer would go through it right away anyways before they sell it, unless they sell it as-is right away, like it was sold to us. they only had it on the lot for about a week and didn't get it in the shop yet to look it over. After that they usually come with a 1-year limited warranty if the tractor has mechanical problems not realated to abuse, such as (just going from what happened w/ this one) bad injection pump/injectors, shifter fork, gear inside the tranny, slow acting hyd. brakes, etc. We would tell the dealer what happened with the tractor, and leave it in their hands. we would not try to screw them to the wall, just get a little more than junk price(had a chance to buy a 1755 w/ vent hole in block for $1000, same price junk dealer quoted them) I really don't want to push my luck with this tractor, and I would not screw over any customer by selling a running tractor "as-is", with known major problems.
Hope this cleared things up a bit. Sometimes I have poor choice in words.

Donovan,
Not suggesting you would - well certainly not after plastering the details of your misfortune all over the world! Obviously an honest guy.
Really just suggesting you might get a better deal selling privately at the 'little over junk value' and then bartering for the replacement.
Like - I have only ever part exchanged one car. All the rest have still been cheaper to buy without part exchange, mostly almost giving the old one away!
Regards and good luck with the replacement, RAB

We still gotta ask around a little, currently we are renting the 2-85 till we are done, never really specified when we'd be done. About how much would you think this tractor is worth? The ollie has about 4700 hrs, 75% rear tread, 75& 90% front, AC loader, new ball joints, water pump, slightly heavier 1855 rear end, 1855 clutch, rebuilt injector pump, lots others I can't remember right now.

Just a suggestion, but i would seriously consider fixing the engine in the ollie before i would pay probably three times the engine overhaul price for another 5000 hour tractor which might need the same treatment in a year or two. This way you will know what you got when your done. And probably be about 4-5 grand ahead as well. Just a thought----
