I just put a new carb kit in the TSX 811 MS carb on my 552. It was really sick before as the previous owner had made his own carb bowl gasket which was wide open. The gasket was cut to the outline of the bowl only. I put in a new float, needle and seat etc and the tractor runs better but it still seems to be rich. It'll belch black smoke after idling and lacks power in all gears but low. This carb has the "fixed power jet" with no adjustment. Any suggestions on making it run better?

From what you are saying it could be that the float(gas) leval is too high.you can bend the float arm a little to lower it.

Better to use a spacer washer under the float valve, rather than bend things. That way you can go back to the old setting exacly, you won't distort the float and you can check out the difference a change made. Regards, RAB
