Just bought a 1959 OC-3 Dozer. The previous owner stated he used straight 10wt oil for the hyd's. Has anyone converted their hyd's to something that is a litte easier to find. Also, can you tell me why the radiator continues to overflow through the overflow tube? I am not sure if the radiator cap is bad or if the overflow tube has broken off inside since the radiator is a little different from todays.

Thanks for any assist.

OOPS! I received a couple of emails in ref to the OC-3, Thanks. What got me curious is someone wrote that OC-3's were not made in '59, well to make this short, when I went to camp this weekend, I took out one of the owners manual that the guy gave me and its an OC-4, I have no idea where I came up with OC-3. Anyway, I don't know if the response's I received will apply to this tractor also. Being that I am in the Wonderful Michigan's U.P., I was looking over the dozer to ensure that all was well for the upcoming winter since I plan to use it to plow the road and found that the Right Rear sprocket was extreamly loose. I removed the trunion cap and found the nut loose. Upon further examination, found that the nut and spindle were stripped. Looks like its been that way for a long time. With out further inspection, I can just assume that the bearing and spindle are shot. Finally here is the question, is this rebuildable or do I need to go find a complete new final drive? The guy I bought it from was only the second owner, he had it for over 40 years, believe it. I have every receipt for everything thats been done to it, which is why I bought such an old tractor, I guess he knew it was going again and didn't want to invest in it again. Anyway, where can I find replacement parts for the OC-4?

Thanks for the help,

Ben

When your OC-3 was new, straight 10 weight was almost a universal hydraulic fluid. I do not know exacly what you had in mind as a fluid and it depends a little on where you live and how much you use it in extreem cold or extreem hot temperatures, but a 10-W20 or 10W-30 might be good to use. Check the radiator cap. Also I do know know with out looking 1951 was the first of the OC-3 models and probably about 1954 or 55 was the last of them.
