Recently found a 1855 w/ a good heavy duty 4-way loader and a Hiniker cab. It has the turboed 310 Waukesha (sp?) w/ an externally oil cooler. I don't know if it has had updated rod bolts or not. It has 2500 orig. hours on it and is in excellent condition. The dealer is asking $9500 but is negotiable. That seems a pretty high to me. What do you guys think is a fair price. I'm located in central WI. Thanks in advance,

Alan

Let me at least put in one voice for the Oliver 1855 and the tractor you are looking at . I own a 1974 Oliver 1855 with the updated engine and I have been very pleased with the tractor and how the engine performs . I have not had any problems with the tractor and had used it for a lot of heavy work . The tractor you are looking at comes with a cab and with a loader as well and the price is negotiable so you can apparently get it cheaper . $ 8,000 to $9000 for a tractor in "excellant condition " with an 95 hp engine , closed center hydraulics , cab , a loader and 18 speeds is not outrageous . A post above yours on this site indicates that an 1650 , which is only about 65 to 70 horse power , sold at auction for $7500 . You also need to consider the price of a similar tractor new . I bought a new John Deere 7210 , 95 hp , cab and loader two years ago for more than 5 times what they are asking for this 1855 which your post indicates is in excellant condition . Just some food for thought .

That sounds high. I would save the money, and wait for a nice 1850 with the Perkins to come along. I think you would be very pleased with that. I like all three of mine!!!

I just saw that same tractor myself in the paper and I thought it was a pretty nice tractor for the age, but the price seemed extremely high for an 1855, but you need to remember that loader is an Allied and those are worth a good 3,000 dollars. At our implement, we have a decent 656 IH with that same loader and many people say we are insane in our asking price, but you need to remember what the whole package is and what and if that tractor is worth that price to you....but 9,500 seems pretty high to me. My two cents....

I saw the same picture in the paper and the tractor does look good. The dealer told be it was a 2 owner tractor with the second owner installing the loader, which almost looks like new. Have you looked at the tractor yet or started it? I would let it run and check the hydraulic pump to see if you could put your hand on it. It's too pricey for my needs. What would be a good question to ask both of the former owners is what type of oil they used in the engine. I don't think it was ever overhauled, but good oil would mean alot to prolonged engine life. Just my 2-bits.

I have always seen in the range of 5-6K for average condition and up to 8K for very good condition. I've seen many 55 series in good condition advertise for 7-9K, but don't know how much the dealers will come off that list price. The loader alone may be worth 1K. Depending on the year (if oil cooler was original rather updated or after market) and how it runs, you wouldn't have paid too much if you got it for under 7.5K.

Thanks for the input. The tractor does have an add on oil cooler and not an original. I think I'm probably wait a while because I don't think that they're even close to my price range yet.

Thanks again,

Alan
